Hi, Thommo6,
I'm sorry to hear that you've not got anywhere, despite being willing to share (I saw on another site a complaint by someone who was charged £499 to share - and paid, just to get a cruise!).
I htink that agreeing to postpone the trip until an indefinite date might have been a bit risky, as they may be under no obligation to honour the agreement beyond the deadline.
Also, the promotion is for single cabins (or doubles for the price of a single) - so there is no reason to share. And, as you can see, sharing doesn't bring the cruise nearer (you don't know that you'd have actually got a cruise in April (many of us have been down the 'dates' road).
Finally, I doubt if the paper is going to boast about it's failure: they've recently ended several court battles over this promotion, they are being investigated by a number of trading standards offices, they've been castigated on You & Yours, Watchdog and other programmes, they've lost loads of money and reputation......
What would you do in their place? If they publish an article on how well the promotion is doing, don't you think they'd get more than a bit of flak?
Keep your hopes up. Maybe you'll get news soon.
Good luck,
Cruiser
On the topic of sharing - if you look at those who have shared (myself included) various charges have been made, all of which differed in amount. I would like to know how they arrived at the prices charged.
Does anyone know if and how you can find out if any private person has had successful litigation with the DE over this promotion ?
Impossble I would have thought. I am sure someone, somewhere will have taken them to court - maybe the small claims court!

I have been booked on a cruise to the Red Sea on 8th December, but no sign of my tickets. I'm starting to panic a little bit. The money has been taken out of my account. Going to phone the cruise store (who I booked the cruise with) tomorrow and see if it is normal to not have tickets yet.
Thought when I recieved the letter from them a flood of bookings would happen, but this is not the case.
Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone
Lilly
Hi Val, a friend of mine is going on a Red Sea cruise in January. I think a few people are being offered Thomson cruises in the new year
I felt the same as you when I was waiting on my ticket. I think it's part of counting down to the cruise (and not trusting that lot!), but I think everyone got their tickets fine and had a wonderful time.
Most people got their tickets a week before they sailed, with some tickets arriving with a day or two to spare , but ring the company anyway to put your mind at rest.
Lucky you, leaving the snow behind! How are you getting along with packing and preparations?
Hope you have a wonderful time.
I have been floating on cloud 9 today. as I finally received the post I was waiting for. I panicked a bit when it appeared to be just a Royal Caribbean booklet... where were the tickets? Then I realised that the flight tickets, transfers, hotel voucher etc were all contained as e tickets within the booklet.
I couldn't wait to get my Setsail Pass completed online, to save time when boarding the ship. A good idea. And I could see where my cabin will be on the ship 'Rhapsody of the Seas'. It is on the third deck right at the 'pointed end'. I am guessing it will be quiet from passing passengers, in that no-one will need to walk past me.
My cruise itinery is different from London Cabby's. I go from Galveston to Key West, George Town (Grand Cayman), Cozumel (Mexico) and back to Galveston. I am SO excited now.
Anyhow, may my success give hope to all those still waiting. Good luck.
Thanks to everyone on this site, as our strength in getting any DE cruises has come about by sharing information and giving support.
Love
Andy's Kay
Brilliant news Kay. At last you are really going. You have waited almost patiently for what seems like eon's, since your tv appearance on Watchdog.
Enjoy, cos those of us that have cruised know that you will.
Dizzy
How long ago was it that you were flying the flag for us on Watchdog? As you say, it's the support and shared info that's kept us all going.
I hope that those still waiting take this as a sign not to give up.
So what does Andy think of it all now then, eh?
I just sent a message to working lunch so I'm counted. I've never heard from the Daily Express so I don't even know if Rise Travel have given them my details.
Wonderful news Kay  . I'm really pleased for you. You are going to have a fantastic time and I'm sure it has given renewed hope to those still waiting.
See; I can't even copy smileys - told you I was useless
Didn't want to start packing until my tickets arrived. Isn't it awful to have so little faith!! Phoned the Cruise Store this morning and they phoned Thomson, who said that my tickets will be posted out today and I should have them by monday or tuesday. All my clothes are ready to go in my case the minute they hit my letterbox.
The snow isn't so bad here in North Wales it's just very cold, but at least I've got the red sea to look forward to.
Thanks for the info on the tickets,
Lilly
You will I am sure have a fabulous time on your imminent cruises and it will have been worth the wait. Happy cruising
The current situation at the newspaper is disgraceful - a recorded message asking people to be patient after waiting for a year and a half! What is worse is that they say there will be no news any time soon!!! Have any of you considered asking the Forum's legl advisors for help? What has happened to the possibility of a protest?
Like Magsy I was wondering if there was any advice from Ros re the fact that this saga is still ongoing after all this time. Surely we have some form of redress against the Daily Express.
Bon Vogage Lilly and Kay Hope you have a great time. It will be worth the long, long wait. Look forward to seeing your photos
have a lovely time, could you please bring me back a bottle of warm to help the winter along. happy cruising. vivien
Hope you've been having a good time.
It will be difficult to find people who've taken legal action against the paper, as most will have done so in the Small Claims Court - unlike the higher courts, its cases aren't indexed.
One person claimed to have sued the DE successfully and the promotion still appears to be under investigation by trading standards officers.
Do you remember the Express's Win A Dream Cruise promotion a few years ago? I think would-be cruisers sued them on that occasion (for anyone who doesn't remember, prize-winners were booked on the Ocean Glory. But they got no further than Dover, as inspectors called the vessel a 'death-trap' and impounded her. If I remember rightly, creditors insisted that the ship be sold, to recover their money, and the unfortunate passengers had to make their own way home! Perhaps they were able to enjoy the ship's facilities in Dover Docks, but I don't think their cruise took them onto the high seas).
See how lucky we are? No one's been stuck yet!
Cruiser
