There is a lot of excursions from Alvor.
You can go to Lagos and Sagres, Tour of the West of the Algarve, Monchique, Eastern Algarve tour and even Seville (although this is a long journey), Albufieria and many others.
There are several tour operators offerring tours and some are really good value. You can book either at the travel agency in Alvor or direct with your hotel reception.
It is also possible to visit Lagos, Albufieria, Monchique P. de Roche and Portimao by public transport. There are also boat trips from the harbour in Alvor.
Hope you enjoy Alvor, we think it is the nicest place in the Algarve.

Vonmac, sorry to jump in here but we are going to Alvor in October - do you happen to know if the travel agency will be open then? We'll have a car but would like info on day trips/places of interest etc.

Yes the travel agents should be open in October. We normally visit in between November and February and they are always open.

I forgot to say there is also a very good tourist information centre in Alvor which is open all year round. John (if he is still there, was in January) speaks excellent english and is very helpful.
