Hi Goanlovers....
just thought i would let everyone know that the Direct Holidays Company no longer "have" Ticlo Resort in Calangute.....or have they had for the last two seasons.I have been going to the Ticlo for the last 7 years(twice a year)...and have become very friendly with the staff and the owner "Glen"...Two years ago he informed us that we would have to book with another company next time we came due to Direct Holidays no longer having rooms at the Ticlo....(outstanding bills been owing to the Ticlo!!!!!).
But when the next brochure came through the post...the Ticlo was still in !!!! I phoned Direct Holidays and asked availability...they said "no problem"...when i pointed out what i knew, they assured me that they were still dealing with the Ticlo.
My brother, not listening to me, went ahead and booked.
1WEEK before he was due to fly he got a phone call from Direct Holidays telling him he was to be relocated on arrival due to the fact Direct Holidays do not deal with the Ticlo due to it not meeting there standards....or he could have his money back (1WEEK before traveling!!!).
He did get relocated on arrival...hotel was good.
Low-and-behold...today i have received a new Direct Holidays brochure...and you've guessed it..the Ticlo is in again !!!!
I have phoned and asked about availability..."no problem" they said....i told them all what Ive just told you and they said they can assure me that they are !!!!!
The Ticlo is a great hotel...its a pitty all travel agents arn't....
we stayed there in dec 2003.it was ok but nowt special.our room was fine but a lot of other people had problems like no running water etc for days on end.Glens a nice bloke to have a beer n chat with, but i wouldn't necessarily wanna stay there again.Best thing about it for me was that it was right near all the action and the lovely bakery across the rd
We stayed there over Christmas. Paid over the odds because of the time of year, which we knew anyway. We only booked the Ticlo because it was the cheapest and we knew where it was. We were in room B1, what a dump! We have stayed in 2 star accommodation over Christmas for the last 3 years but this was the worst. We even had to sellotape my sarong to the bedroom windowframe as a makeshift curtain due to the fluorescent tubes outside making night as bright as day. Fortunately after 4 nights we were rescued by family and spirited away to a brand new 2 bed apartment at the Highland Beach in Candolim. Bliss!!
Oh dear it sounds like it has gone worse. The main problem when we were there was the extremely arrogant and unhelpful manager.whenever anyone asked for anything he looked down his nose at them, and rarely carried out any of the requests. The rest of the staff inc the owner were fine with us though
