We stayed here in July. Wasn't the right place for us, other than the pool there was nothing to do. They played the same music over and over again .

Was disappointed with Hisaronu, went with my 2 children and it wasn't for them , nothing much to do for them . But each to their own . Depending on what you want, but watching barmen dance on the bars was ok for a night or two but not any longer.

The people and scenery are fantastic .

We went to Hisaronu in 1989, think we were some of the first tourists to have ever stayed there!
We had the most fantastic holiday, and have promised to return one day.
There were no hotels in Olu Deniz, and only a few bars, shops, restaurants in Hisaronu itself.

We are going to Olu next year in July, 17 years later, we expect it to be VERY different to when we were last year.

Thought we would hop on a dolmus and go to Hisaronu, and look up our old apartment. We have been told in Turkey this year in Sarigerme, by one of the reps there that Yalchin is still the owner of the apartment, it is sold by Thomson small and friendly. Can anyone tell us whether
a) he is still there, and what about his sons??
b) has anyone stayed there recently, what is it like.

if I remember rightly, you turned right from the main road into the village. When we were there you had to cross a dirt track, and field with your cases, the coach couldnt even go down there it was so underdeveloped. That was part of the appeal for us, hope we are not disappointed! I expect the whole place is unrecognisable now!! :D

Your right I'm afraid ,you will not recognise Hisaronu . It has changed out of all recognition and for the worse I might add. we have been going there for the last 10 years and It is all very built up and comercialised now. they have built houses and appartments everywhere and it has been extended halfway to Fethye and even up the side of Baba Dag but we still love it as one thing that hasn't changed is the friendliness of the Turkish people . Hope that you enjoy your hol and try the parachute jump off the top of Baba dag if you dare , iit is fantastic . If you want a nice meal in Hisaronu try the MERCAN RESTAURANT it is up at the roundabout at the top of the village just as you turn right to head back down to Olu . Tell NIHAT that IAN from Scotland sent you and you will be made most welcome . all the best wee-john you didn't mention the name of the apartment so I don't know if it still exists

Hello Susien

There are no dirt tracks in Hisaronu anymore. It will be totally unrecognisable to you now apart from the mosque, which is about the only thing that hasn't been moved but difficult to spot now amongst all the bars and restaurants along that strip.

I first went there 20 years ago and like you loved the informality, beauty, quietness and friendliness of Hisaronu. A few of the people who were just starting business back then are still there. Ozkan and Cengis who back then had a tiny little shop called the Swan Supermarket (that always made me laugh because if both brothers were in there at the same time there was only room for one customer) are now running their Husslers Bar and Ozkan and his lovely mother and father and younger brother, who had a tiny restaurant and shop a little further along the road from the Swan, on the way towards Sami's, are there too but they now have a small pension and a large bar! I understand that Ischmael who probably managed almost every bar in the village and in 1989 was managing The Purple Bar, is also still around running his own hotel and bar now. And Hassan who ran the Gurol is still there making as much money as he always wanted to.

There are few of the oldies left now. They sold up and who can blame them and left for somewhere as peaceful as Hisaronu used to be.

All those lovely restaurants that were basically in a field with only the stars as a roof have long gone. You no longer need a torch to return back to your room at night.

Olu is a lot bigger too although thankfully it is not full of high rise hotels due to it being a national park.

Fethiye although a lot bigger is essentially the same but they now sweep the pavements and have flower beds.

Thanks Magster for that!! Can't wait to go now and see for myself! :D

Yes...I'm afraid I agree with you regarding how Hisaronu has changed! When we first went...many moons ago.....it was really just one street..no pavements  ! It has expanded so much since then....but....I also agree about the people...wonderful ..warm and friendly! Cem still runs the Unique Anatolian Arts...his brother now runs a shop in Fethye. Seggie who used to front the old Alloah Bar (how that has changed! ) now has his own Hakuna Matata....Oh...I could go on! Last time we went into Fethye..and wandering through the refurbished veg/fish market we got speaking to a 14year old turkish lad. His family owned a small restaurant....and then we realised his mother used to be the cleaner one year at our small 'hotel' in Hisaronu! He went to get her...and we spent the most wonderful evening with them and their neighbours...about 15 of them and two of us! So....this, the people, is the main reason it keeps drawing us back time and time again!
Kelyny....I THINK the Marcan is...on entering Hisaronu...on the left there is a road going uphill....it may be up there on the right hand side! Not far at all!

Hi kelyny
Pam 7 is almost correct in the location of MARCAN hotel . If you are coming from Ovacek turn right at the big roundabout it is up the first road on the left just past the market area (a big piece of open ground ) and continue up a rather steep hill for a few hundred meters and it is on the left hand side, (opposite the TELMESSOS). we stayed there 4 years ago and found it to be a good hotel although a bit busy . Good luck wee-john

re the yalchin hotel i'm pretty sure it is still there i stayed at the st nicholas gardens in may and i think its just further up the road behind it
if you stood at the entrance to st nicholas gardens and turned out and round the corner to your left and straight up the road or you can still reach it by coming from the main street, there is still some wasteland opposite it.

ive been to hisaronu 3 times now and love the place, their is such a variety of different bars and places to eat their is something to please everybody. we went in may of this year and we had the worse week of weather it was to cold to sit around the pool so we used to go down to the beach, we would be lied their hearing the thunder round the mountains, well it added effect  we have noticed that since last year tho it has split into two different age groups its either familys or groups of young girls, so depending what type of holiday you want bare it mind. it was the same in both may and august

JAC, it's hit and miss at easter time although I think it would be unusual to get prolonged bad weather. Most days are sunny and reasonably warm, in the low 70's but the nights are very chilly. You are likely to get downpours every now and then. The added bonus at this time of the year is the flora and fauna, absolutely stunning with colours you just do not get at other times of the year. Everywhere is covered with a carpet of lovely wildflowers and the bees they are a humming! Another bonus is that although everywhere will not be open, the majority of places will be getting ready to open and they will have lots of time (or so it seems) to sit and chat. They're all fresh for the new season.

Hi All,
Last time we went to Hisoranu was in 2000. We are thinking of going back this summer. Was just wondering if there have been many changes since then?
Hope it's not turned into the 'party capital' of the area.
