Me and 2 friends booked a holiday over new year to Turkey about 6 months in advance with lastminute.com which are a big company who you think you'd be able to rely on! 3 of us were booked but 1 of us was on an earlier flight because he decided he wanted to come after we'd booked ours! Anyway.......on the morning of our flight my friend decided to call Stansted after looking on their website and being unable to locate our flight! She was informed that no usch flight was departing from that airport that day and as far as she could see there was never one scheduled!!!! Our friend, who was already on his way to catch an earlier flight, said maybe we should try and get to the airport so if worst came to worse we could try and get on his flight! So.....bearing in mind we had an hour drive to the airport, me and my other friend nearly had a heart attack trying to finish packing and race down to Stansted! By the time we got down there it was about an hour until this other flight was departing and as it stood, we had no seat on a flight as the one we'd booked had some how vanished without trace!! After waiting at the info desk for god knows how long, we were finally informed that out flight had not only been moved to an earlier departure time, but it was also moved from Stansted to Heathrow!! Apparently all passengers had been emailed but we never ever received this and surely something this important should be followed up with a phone call or something?!?! The man at the desk was on the phone to the people who we'd booked with and they refused to accept any responsibility and wouldnt pay towards these new flights we were about to book! We ended up paying an extra £500 EACH there and then and didnt even get so much as an apology! We took it up with lastminute.com when we returned and although they refunded the initial price of the flights they refused to do anything else! We were shoved from pillar to post everytime we called up and got no where! We were asked to send in the confirmation and my friend (stupidly) sent the original and didnt even photocopy it. When she called again a week later they had no recored of receiving anything and said we needed to send it again! So this is where its been left!! We're £1000 out of pocket altogether because they completely changed our flights and didnt tell us!!
Does anyone have any ideas on what we can do?!?!
Thank you very much!!
I would imagine you have some case both against LastMinute.com and the tour operator. Who was the tour operator in this case?
You say you didnt recieve an e-mail but what about the flight tickets ? They should have issue new ones with a change of airport and time. Do you still have the old ones as these will be evidence that you were given the wrong times and airport. Also I assume lastminute.com sent you the confirmation by e-mail can you not retrieve this as more evidence. refunding the flight price already shows some sign of culpability on lastminutes part.
If you can gather this information together then I would suggest speaking to Ros the travel lawyer specialist who helps members on this site.
Kind Regards
Stewart
The tour operator was Sun Express. We did have tickets but lastminute made us return them for a refund. And I'll have to get my friend to check her emails as she was the one who made the original booking. I'm not sure we'll have enough evidence to do anything about it but I suppose I could try contacting Ros and see what she advises.
Thanks a lot for your help!!!
Fiona,Sun express is a Turkish airline that some British tour operators use.Thomas Cook used them last year.Is it possible that Thomas Cook is your tour company? If so it may be worth contacting them.
Well I hope not because I'm going on holiday with Thomas Cook next week and I've had enough hassle from them with this holiday! Lastminute.com weren't very helpful though and even said they had no record of our booking on their system! Who are they kidding?! Where did we suddenly vanish to???
I suggest you speak to Ros to explain the situation so she can advise if you have enough evidence. Suneexpress are not a tour operator so it is likely the tour operator was Thomas Cook, this would be on the confirmation e-mail.
It's also possible that there is no tour operator - lastminute will do flight + hotel deals (which their website classes as being different to a Holiday!). If it was booked on line does anything still show in the "My Account" option?
Again, I'd have to get my friend to check because she booked it all. She's kind of given up though and just accepted that we're £500 out of pocket each but I dont think its fair at all.
Did you ever see this confirmation or tickets? I really can't think there is a lot you can do now as you seem to have no paperwork or email evidence. I take the man or woman at the information desk saw your tickets? It might be worth phoning and speaking to him/her to get confirmation you had tickets.
She's kind of given up though and just accepted that we're £500 out of pocket each but I dont think its fair at all.
Unfortunately this is often the case.
The process of complaining takes far longer than it should.
The TOs are well aware that people will simply give up due to the hassle involved.
I would hazard a guess that many of the requests for assistance we get on HT go the same way.

The same thing happened with my inlaws last year. The booked to go to prague through last minute and when they reached the airport the flight had been stopped about 3 months previously. They phoned last minute from the airport as they were furious who managed to get them on different flights meaning they lost out on a day of their holiday. They then made a complaint when they got back about loosing a day and got a refund on the hotel for it. But it has taught us all not to trust last minute.
I am furious with this company and will not look at anything they have to offer in the future. I cant trust anything they say. I’m not sure if they have charged my card twice now. I explained to the customer service woman on the other line that the reason people go online is to save time and money. This company in the end, although advertise cheap flights etc, it costs a lot of money to go on the telephone to try and sort it out and in the end you lose money anyway.
disgusting
all I would say is pay a little bit extra for less hassle than go to this company which I would not recommnend.
regards cass
