Wilsons is excellent as well. Its just behind the shacks on Calangute beach.
Try me in Mandrem village is excellent for food and really cheap.

If everyone adds some indication on price, hygiene ( if a bit dodgy especially !) and ambience/ atmosphere it would be good !

For good Chinese & Thai food in the Candolim area try Roy's. It's up the stairs next door to Top Nosh. I think it's before you get to the Stonehouse on the same side of the road. It's not expensive nor is it a dump. I wouldn't say there's lots of ambiance but the friendliness of Roy and the staff make up for it. We like to sit overlooking the road and watch the world go by.

jamies is on baga road (Brittos end)lovely setting mostly outside,attentive staff,spotlessly clean,we stuck to the soul food which was excellent

1. The Carvery - Beach Road, Candolim. It's where the 'meets' are which helps, and was our 1st time eating there last year - very good tasting curries, decent people watching set-up, clean toilets, prices very reasonable - will be back here next season.

2. The Spice Garden - Main Road, Candolim - Got to be the best for steaks (thought Foxes in Candolim was good - but this wins hands down), nice staff, good surroundings, clean toilets and great separate bar area, you don't have to move all night from. Prices are great for the size of the steaks you get.

Thats my pick from last season, can't fault the others really, but having to choose they are the ones to try.

My top 3 in Candolim are

1. Rising Waves - excellent steaks and seafood. Looks nothing from the outside but lovely fairy light garden. Toilets clean and staff attentive. Best to book in advance to ensure you get a table, which says it all.

2. Jazz Corner - some nice entertainment most nights (although I would personally avoid the karaoke) and the food is good - fresh prepared tandoori and curries stand out.

3. Patricks - only does fish and chips but does it well. Some people have complained that the portions are too small, but if you do not have a huge appetite for 200 ruppes it is excellent value. They also have a quiz night and on Fridays you can queue for a table, which many do.

(Cavelossim) fairly inexpensive, good varied menu, well worth a visit..

GOLDEN EYE ~ Food every bit as good (better I think) than Kim Faa,
(Cavelossim) dirt cheap, great menu, great no frills place for a Chinese

JAMIES ~ Newly opened last year, really niceley set out, nice varied
(Baga) menu, great food, not to expensive, advisable to book as
it can get busy

as others have said there are plenty of good places to eat, but some can be a bit hit & miss and there's nothing worse than recommending somehere to eat to someone and the Place is having a bad night.... ....cheers Keith

It was great to see this up and running again - there we were last night having a good moan about the weather and talking about all the restaurants in Goa we wanted to visit on our next trip, seems we weren't the only sad cases thinking about this last night. There are so many to visit we never get round them all in 3 weeks and some more have now been added to our list - keep them coming, although we like going back to our favourites we try to make room for new ones.

My favourites from last year were:

BOMRA in Candolim for superb Burmese food. Fantastic salads such as green mango, warm aubergine or crispy pork. Quite small so best to book, very clean but have not checkd out the loos. Quite expensive if you enjoy a few of the fab cocktails!!

JAMIES in Baga, new find and really good, nice atmosphere and very attentive staff, they even put a complimentary bottle of local mosquito spray Odimos on each table, nice touch. Was very busy so best to book here too. Very clean. Only negative was the pizza, they don't have mozarella so it was not nice as it cooled down.

KIM FAA in Baga, great Chinese food and always well looked after by the staff, some who have been there for years.

What is that Dragon on...we was going to keep Totos a secret, great food but a cafe setting, Clif said it was the best vindaloo he had tasted

A couple of nice places we liked last season ..

Mix... apora, a new place that looks very expensive so we did not try them until most other places had shut down but found them to be very good. A smallish menu at normal prices and if they have it, they will cook it any way you want.

Razza...near Mackies market lovely lamb steaks, reasonable size menu at normal prices, OK setting

Tuscany gardens... next to the Alida Santa Rita Candolim medium priced but cheap for Italian

Calangute - my fave was Mirabais. Just down the lane past the Cricketers (Old Rabbie Burns) I ate here quite a lot on my last visit as it was close to the hotel where I was staying and I couldn't get around as much as I was struggling pushing my mum around in a wheelchair after her accident in Goa.
There was plenty of choice, they had an open kitchen so you could watch them preparing and cooking whatever you'd chosen off the menu and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I just hope it's like that when I get back over in December.

Cavelossim - Has to be Joes Rivercove as already mentioned by KJF. Great food at very reasonable prices. Hubby rated the sea bass - absolutely gorgeous and I loved the chicken tikka. Portions are generous so I only needed to order the starter tikka as there was plenty on that. Nice atmosphere with entertainment on certain nights so you can have a dance if your into that sort of thing. It's away from the main area of Cavelossim so you have to get a taxi at night but only around 100rps so not a problem.

Bomra sounds interesting. Whereabouts in Candolim is it please? We will be in Goa for 3 months so need a good selection to try. At the moment Rising Waves is always our first choice but it can get a bit "samey" when you use it so much. I love trying different cuisines and Bomra sounds just the ticket.

Vindaloo at the Carvery Candolim - average prices here food better when its not too busy

Xacuti at Alexanders Hotel Candolim - we usually have friends who stay here so often start and end the evening with a few drinks here, varied menu should find something to suit everyone average prices, some nights we just get a few bits and pieces to share, pakara, golden prawns, spring rolls etc. They do a lovely Irish Coffee.

Speaking of Irish Coffees the best I have had in Candolim are at the Coyote just round the corner from Teama at the bottom of beach road.

Butter Chicken at the Green Garden Candolim - The head waiter here cracks me up

Almost anything at the Verunderum (sp?) at Calangute - love their parathas and good salty lassi too

And when I am finally all spiced out..Steak at the Rising Wave or Foxes

And for the evenings when I dont really fancy much to eat the omlette man who sets up each night beside the back enterance to the rising wave...very cheap and very nice wish he was there at breakfast time too

The Greek Restaurant Anjuna (forgotten the name!! is it Thalissa...i think so...) having a mad moment! you need to book its packed even when all the charters have left at the end of season, well used by wealthy Indians form other states and Europeans

Ram Baba or is it Baba rum??: signposted on the way from calangute to Anjuna on your left down a side road ..a nice cafe for breakfast or lunch, where they do lush quiche, rolls and fresh bread, croissants etc newspapers to read, relaxing place to enjoy the morning relaxing for a bit...

Souymiens kitchen..excellent steak, special coffees, desserts and starters!

Small local cafe/rest on outskirts of Calangute market only open at night..... fab sheesh kebabs and tandoori ... total cost for 2 of us a couple of quid, i think the meat kebabs plus Paratha are about 35 rps total and come with a great sauce...good take away (or you can eat in, but very much a local place) its a restaurant during day (local) and at night the BBQ kebab thing comes out... its like a stall really ... also good tandoori chicken ...we take away from here a lot when we are having a quiet night in ...will update name when it comes to me...

Tuscany Garden, lovely ambience and food (Italian) candolim on main road.

Carvery, candolim... good menu and have some great options ... the carvery MAY change its name this year but will be in the same place etc will update as i hear...

Kim Faa... as ever consistently fabulous chinese but busy so book...

Scarletts, The juice bar in chapora (I love Chapora) for authentic and extreemly cheap fresh juice to die for...a massive list of every thing you can think of from chico, and grapes to strawberrys and beetroot, tie it in with a trip to Anjuna market and boost your Vit C... but order a few at once as this is a very local place and NOT high tech!! service is very slow!! but at about 15-20 rps for a juice, shake... or a massive bowl of fruit salad and ice cream sooo cheap at about 40/45 rps but be warned you get a lot of hippies hanging out here its an alternative spot,,, used to be Isrealis a few yrs ago, now Russians ...but its great.. cows come and nudge you as you eat/drink for a handout... very basic but everything fresh! we have been going here for years and prefer it out of season really but we go at least once a week for a boost ..we got introduced to it by Goan friends during monsoon time and paid even less than the advertised prices!!...also some great local characters can be observed here at times ...

Helenas.. a very local bar/restaurant on the Nerul road, heading from Candolim on the Nerul Road its on your left...... very cheap, no frills but smashing food and CHEAP booze (buy your spirit by the quarter bottle and its about 60 rps i think..is that right?? anyway its cheap and they sell tonic. and do great prawns rava fry (large ones) very very reasonably.... we have enjoyed a few nights out here... i arranged to meet an new HT'er here last season and we all got trapped by massive downpours and electric storms and as we were on bikes couldnt leave for hrs... shame! there is no ambience apart from your own as this is a local place...there is an upstairs for europeans but we prefer the downstairs as its entertaining observing the true local Goans... its run by Laurence of Arabia (his words!) and his wife...the daughter is Helena...

and yes Dragon Toto's...as long as you dont arrange a 'meet' there out of season..after the Carvery shut last season we arranged to meet HT'ers there has they shut up on us and we were all high and dry!!... and confused lookingofor each other!

Would not recommend the farthest away from calangute/candolim end Fishermans cove... the staff have attitude, i find them rude and we have had a bad meal there on more than one occassion....and they couldnt care less, ... just my opinion...but i have given this place numerous chances over the years, i think you are OK if you are very regular there,and 'in' with them? or a young pretty girl... the waiters are all young and on the lookout!!

there was another very nice restaurant we found in candolim at the end of last season but name escapes me now!! but they also have music and lovely cocktails... ..help me out Meagain plse! we tried it out of interest with meagain and O/H and enjoyed our evening...very attentnive staff and interesting menu... good ambience too .. cost very reasonable as i remember... and we did have cocktails!
