Hi The trip we did was the one with the yoga in the morning at the temple a 2 night stay in mud huts and bathing the elephants which was amazing experience there was a small village near the site and you get to look around that the children live in the village we went in the evening but i think they normally visit the school earlier in the day.
Yes the same one! A short distance away from the school is a 'house' where some young girls....8-12 years of age...were practising their cultural dance routine.....and we were just leaving the school at that time and were able to stop and watch! They were wonderful!!! I think it is now going to be part of the programme! We enjoyed every single moment of the two days...think we overdosed on elephants! The yoga in the grounds of the temple was particularly good too!
Hi, my boyfriend & me have just come back from Goa (yesterday) & while we were there we went to a place called Godfrey's Indian Retreat. It has two adult elephants but they will be getting a baby one in October (just in time for your visit). The place is absolutely amazing, it's only an hour's drive away from Baga/Calangute whilst the other trips are about 3 1/2 hours away (but this all depends on where you're staying of course). It's also only £30 per person for the day or £60 over night and it only cost us £10 in a taxi (the reps wanted £70 per person for the day). When we went we were the only two there which was excellent. The price includes breakfast, lunch & dinner & the man who owns it is a chef so the food is lovely. The price also included a ride on the elephants, feeding them, washing them in a river, the people also dress you up in saris & take your photo. Then in the evening they take you on another ride as the sun sets. We only went for the day but the accommodation there is very nice & spacious, then the next day you get to do yoga & other activities. There is also a pool & jacuzzi which is lovely & lots of sun beds to laze around on. The one thing that you should know is that they don't allow children (I think someone told us they had taken their 12 year old & that was fine but I get the impression that it's very young children that aren't allowed) so it's very nice & quiet.
Can anyone advise me on where you book the 2day jungle trip one with the mud huts, elephant washing and yoga we are staying in Baga many thanks and how much is it?

Ooops...about £72 pp...but worth EVERY penny!
Hi can any one give me some info on the elephant trip?
It depends on which elephant trip you are wanting to go on. We did the spice pantation and elephant trip, which is just for a day...It starts with the elephants, they have two at the plantation, everyone takes it in turns to have a ride and then afterwards you may feed them. Then its off to the plantation where you will be greated with a very warm welcome with hundreds of petals being thrown over everyone as they enter, then a welcome drink and snack followed by a guided tour of the plantation, most interesting. After the tour, its time to bath the elephant in the river, that is fun and then you can sit on it and let the elephant wash you...great fun. We paid 32.00 each through our rep Thomsons, this included lunch as well. Dress code, pair of shorts and T shirt is fine, sensible, but importantly comfortable footware including sandles are ok.
You can do this trip much cheaper of course by going by taxti...I don't know the price for going it alone.
It was a great experience for me.

thanks paula cant wait going Jan 06
Hi George123005.....we did the 2 day Elephant Trip. Excellent! Cost 11,000rps..about £70 pp but worth every rupee!!!! Picked up at 9 ...first stop Spice Plantation for about an hour...then to their bar/restaurant for drinks. Wander down to river which is a tributory to the Mandovi and onto rafts...all linked together. About 20minutes later arrive at a swim area to cool off for half hour. Then.......! 3 elephants...one being a baby of 4 and half years!... and their mahouts arrived via the river from other side of bank!!! For approximately one and half hours you can scrub them with coconut shells....climb up onto them and be 'hosed' down !...You then each receive an 'elephant blessing' whereby one of the elephants very gently lowers his trunk onto each of your heads! Brilliant! Then...back onto the rafts and back to the bar/restaurant where lunch is served...rice, veg curry, dahl, chicken etc etc, fruit salad, mango, melon. Back to coach and travel for about an hour to Shanti Village stopping off en route at cashew nut factory. Mud huts (including the bed!) basic but fun!!! All have an 'en suite' ...of sorts! cold water only though! Quick change... soup...then walk by torchlight to one of the oldest temples. Back to village for elephant demonstration....absolutely brilliant! Elephants 'dressed' in their finery! Then dinner, potato wedges, chicken, curried chick peas, veg curry, rice, naan. After which to round the evening off plenty to drink around a camp fire..complete with singing and dancing to guitar!! Bed 1 o'clock! We decided to give the 5 o'clock early start jungle walk a miss!! Otherwise...for those that didn't go it was a 8.15 wake up call for coffee then walk to temple for yoga which started at 9. Back afterwards for breakfast, curried egg, curried potatoes, veg samosas, coffee. Then camel cart, ox cart and elephant rides!!! Drinks then vacate rooms by midday. Next it was a walk to local village where the head of the village showed how they ground their rice etc and inside their house. Next onto the local school! Approximately 13 children. They are taught English, geography, history and maths. Such beautiful children! They sang some songs for us all too. We passed by a dancing school on way to river and was treated to an inpromptu 'show' by the young girl dancers ...they were practising for a competition. Wonderful!!! Then onto the stream where Dumbo..the baby elephant and his foster mum were being bathed. Back to the village for lunch, popadums, rice, naan, salad, chicken etc. Onto coach by 2.30 and back to hotel! EXCELLENT 2 DAYS!! Thoroughly recommend it!
I've got to say it was probably one of the most amazing experiences I have had or will ever have in my life!!
I was scared, very scared...................I am not keen on creepy crawlies. However I was determined and I am so glad I did.
I felt that it was very pricey and I felt that they were abusing the tourism for charging such a fee..........................however after I had been for the best 2 days of my life, I can tell you I would have paid double. We were all treated like royalty, Pam you described the trip to a tee!!
When I return to Goa, yet again this year, I will be going on Jungle Book again without a shadow of a doubt!!
Paula
I didn't see ONE creepie crawlie...but then I wasn't looking!!! By the time we got to bed that night I was past caring ... too much Honeybee!!! I have a photo of the hut...inside too! Not sure if I should post it though...might scare some people off! Ours was hut 36...and when you took the wood out of the hole that served as the window.....the elephants were in a pound right outside!!! (chained to a tree!) Brilliant!!! We were even more luckier than most people because we knew the guide on our trip well! We met up with him a few days later in Panjim and went by ferry over to his house for the afternoon/evening!! How many can we get on a motorbike!!!
Inside hut....click on photo to enlarge!!!
It was just the idea of the chance that I may see one that scared me.
Honestly, believe me.....................just put all of your fears to one side!! On the night, as pam said, you will be so shattered you will go straight to sleep, next thing you will be woken up by the guides. MADAM MADAM ITS TIME FOR UP!!!
I am sure that never again in my life will I ever get the chance to see a 6 day old elephant, the first MALE elephant to be born in GOA!!!
To see the beautiful children in the village, to play tug of war with an elephant which he won I might add, to feed and bath the elephants.
We were the only two people to see the baby, luckily my fiancee is of indian origin so it does help that he speaks the lingo!! And I must say the food was absolutely top notch!!
There is a 1 day elephant trip where you visit some temples (including the water temple in Panaji)
then a small village where you meet the locals
you then go to a huge cave where lots of bats live (sounds strange but it is very interesting)
you then get a tour of the spice plantation, visit a cashew farm and drink a bit of Feni straight from the still, next on to feed the elephants with water melons and bananas, ride the elephants, and wash the elephants in a stream (or as someone else here said they wash you).
It all ends up with an evening meal at Ice & Spice in Candolim.
Fantastic day out and it costs....£ 15 all in
If you P.M. me I will let you have the mobile number of the man that organsies this trip.
Pam was your guide Zeb sounds like the same one we had he lived on the island you need to get a ferry to. he was great guide. bit worried when he told what his hut number was though lol.
