hiya everyone. Every year we go abroad in August we book a variety of day trips with our hotel reps [mytravel/airtours] and with the four of us it costs a packet!! when we wander around the resort and see these independant shops offering the same trips at sometimes half the price i am tempted but a bit dubious being so much cheaper!! has anyone got advice as to weather they are good value or is it a case of two good to be true price. thanks for any replies

The excursions offered by Lutons/Last Minute are very good value for money and very reliable. We used them for a couple of excellent trips last year. You'll find their leaflets scattered around the resort, usually tucked under rocks on street corners. Your hotel reception will probably be able to book the trips for you.

On the subject of excursions, we're going back out to Lanza two weeks today. We've often seen the quads that go offroading whilst down towards Los Picollos and my sister fancies doing it. Does anybody know where we can find details on how to book these and what days they run?

Thanks

It is some years since we last visited Lanzarote - but we always hire a car for a few days and go for days out......... where do you recommend? I remember the camel rides and also the grotto. We are a group of ages from 9 - 80 so something that will suit all!

Hi, I was there 2 years ago and there was a yellow submarine at the harbour (not the new one, the one where the ferries go from) in Playa Blanca. that might be fun.
Sorry cant be more helpful but it was a lazy holiday!

There are several trips that you can take. We went on the all island trip, not with the TO though but with one that the hotel we were staying recommended. I don't if you are staying in Playa Blanca but if you are go to the Natura Palace hotel and ask for their excursion leaflet the tour I mentioned was half the price of the tour operators for the same trip. The triop included a visit to the Montanas el Fuego,Jamoes del Agua, El Golfo, the Salinas del Janubio and a visit to two miradors whose names I cannot remember one had a view of the Isla Graciosa there is also a meal included about half way into the trip. I thought it was great value for €50. I also liked the day trip went on to the island of Fuerteventura but if you're buying ticket for anyone over sixty mind and ask for passengers over 60 as it will be a discount for them. You can have a look here to see the tariff.

I enjoyed visiting Cesar Manriques house. It was really interesting seeing the house underground and in the volcanic rock.

The camel rides are in part of the Timanfaya National park but if you haven't already been, the 'route of the volcanoes' coach tour is worth doing. They have demonstrations of the heat generated under the ground by igniting dry brush and also pouring water down a bore hole to create a geyser of steam. When we went last year it cost €8 entrance including the 30 minute tour.

The Mirador del Rio in the North of the Island is also worth a visit with spectacular views of the Chinijo Archipelago from the look-out point.

We used Lutons Travel/Last Minute HERE for our trips round Lanzarote. You should find their leaflets around the resort, the tours are excellent and good value for money.

As you have children aged 9 you might like to give them a "thrill" by standing under the flight path of the planes coming into Lanzarote airport. The place to be is on the beach at Matagorda, the airport end of Puerto del Carmen. You can see the planes landing and taking off from the boardwalk that runs along the fence surrounding one side of the airport. There's a light gantry just off the shore that sticks out into the sea and lines the planes up ready for landing. If you sit on a rock by the edge of the path, in line with the gantry, eventually a plane will fly over at VERY low height, around 50 feet or so and the noise is very loud.

Perhaps "thrill" isn't the right word as some people might find it a bit too close for comfort!

Hi,does anyone know how far it is from costa teguise to puerto calero we would like to try the submarine trip. Thanks :D

Diane it is only a couple of roads providing you can get on the circumvalcion of arrecife & not end up in the city itself! Stick to the road and then the turn off for puerto calero is just after puerto del carmen and it's a couple of km's down then with ample parking
