Spndles,

We were in Lanzarote 2 weeks ago and went to the beach to watch the planes coming in - we loved it, there is always quite a crowd gathered the best day to go is a Thursday when they come and go one after the other.

Does anybody know if this beach is a nudist beach? we walked around the edge of the airport and saw 2 men walking around on the beach naked and a couple of others sunbathing naked!

The following places are worth seeing when you are on the island :

- Jameos del Agua
- Mirador del Rio
- Cueva de los Verdes
- Timanfaya National Park
- Cesar Manrique House

Have a good day.

Michael.

Amber, you asked if the beach by the airport was a nudist beach - apparently it is. Here's a link to say where the rest are (should you feel so inclined!)

We are staying in Playa Blanca in May & would like to take our 1 & 3 year old on this trip.

Are there tour companies that do a full or half day tour, as it is at the other end of the island?

What sort of price can we expect to pay?

Any advice please..... :D

You have submarine tours with departure from puerto calero (20 min by car from playa blanca). The company is called - submarine safaris -

From what I heard its a good - submarine - trip but I never tried it... Here is their website http://www.submarinesafaris.com

I went on the Submarine Safari in 2000 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Booked at the office in Puerto Calero the day before.

Can anyone help. We are stopping in Costa Teguise nxt april we will have a hire car so are looking for places of interest exploring the island and of course the markets.

We stopped there & had a car for a week, so can definitely help you here!

If you go down the main Avenida la playas until the end, you find what looks like a rough road out of town. Don't worry, it isn't, and takes you right upto the main road. Turning towards the north of the island, go a few kms and then turn right, following the road into Guatiza. This brings you to the beautiful jardin de cactus which is a must see.

From here, take the road back to the main route and go further north. Using signposts you can find many attractions and the roads are really quiet too. We drove through to the Mirador del rio, then coming back through the village of Haria and back to costa teguise in just 5 hours, with most of that time spent at the attractions.

In the mid-island you can follow signposts to the midlevel places such as San bartolome, Nazaret & towards the sports complex place which name eludes me just now.

Going the opposite way out of town, circumnavigate Arrecife and you have Puerto Del Carmen, and further away, Playa Blanca. Both have lots of good stops for refreshments and villages such as Tias, Yaiza & the la Geria wine region are all worth a stop.

There's also the national park but we've still to do this so I don't know how easy it is to get to with a hire car.

hope this helps a bit, it's a lovely Island to drive around, as is Fuerteventura due to the peace & quiet you generally get, and the reasonable conditions of the main routes.

I am trying to find some costs of trips for the evening to the grill at Timanfaya but all I have so far is pre booking with Thomson.
Has anyone recently returned and can tell me how much it is to book in resort (PB) or if you can DIY. It was about £100 for 2 adults and a child which seemes a lot but perhaps I am out of touch with prices!
When we visited Lanza in May there were offers with the reps for free children in resort for lots of the trips. We are going at the end Oct/beg Nov.

Thanks :)

Hi welshlass, Tamaragua was always the tour company I used, and they used to do the Volcan Grill on Weds and Sats. Unfortunately I can't find it in their programme this season. I have just phoned Last Minute, who do what they call the "Volcan Grill". Unfortunately they do NOT have the meal in the restaurant in Timanfaya. I do think its a bit naughty to be calling it the Volcan Grill when you are not actually eating there  Perhaps you should check with Thomson that they do actually eat up there too?

Sorry I can't be more useful

welshlass,

We have just returned last Thursday. Missing Lanzarote all ready.

Last Minute Travel charge €50 per adult and €25 for children. This is from this year's tour brochure.

However, all the travel firms come down for the evening meal normally to Yaiza. But, Thompson is the only one that has the evening meal in the Volcan Grill on top of Timanfaya.

This is what we did last year, cannot remember the price. Having a barbeque on top of a Volcano and cooked with the heat is definitely different and the views of the lava fields and sunset whilst you are eating is worth it.

Thanks both. Will probably book now with Thomson as we really want the experiance of eating from the volcanic grill. :D

Me too welshlass, after all the whole point is to be in the Fire Mountains watching the sunset over them while eating! It is a lovely experience :D

Last Minute are using the restaurant in Lanzarote de Caballo apparently, for their Volcan Grill excursion.

Hi,does anyone have any information on the short south tour we are staying in costa teguise. How long a journey is it from ct to the fire mountain? Thanks

We are just back last night from Costa Teguise. We found it easier and cheaper to hire a minibus (9 seater) to go to fire mountain, you get more freedom and time at the top. We also managed to cover most of the island in the one day. We also got to the caves verde. Self drive from costa teguise to fire mountain is less than an hour without speeding. Total cost for the whole day including fuel, car hire, entrance fees for 8 adults and 1 child was 210euros. Tour operator at hotel wanted 56 euros per person for the fire mountain south tour.

If you need any more info will do my best to answer.

Just thought I would update you on the volcan grill trip. We booked in resort with Thomson (137 Euros for 2A and 1 C ) to go on 30/10/07.
What a disaster!
Our pick up time was 16.10 and we were actually collected 17.20.
We reached the volcano at 18.25 and by now it was pitch black (due to the hour going back). The staff were telling us we were too late but the driver still took us in to the lava fields. We could not see a thing and I have never been so scared in my life. My daughter kept asking me why I was white and the lady infront of my husband was almost in tears and shaking as she was so scared. It was a very dangerous thing to do and we were very lucky that an accident diddn't occur. Thank heavens the driver cut the drive short and took us back to the restaurant. By now all the other visitors had finished their meal apart from dessert and we saw 5mins of the entertainment! It was rush rush rush and soon we were on our own as the other people had departed.
Thomson knew they were wrong as we were offered a 50% refund the next day but we should never have been put at risk as anyone who has seen the lava fields by day knows how narrow and winding the road is and how steep the drops on either side. We were lucky that a serious accident didn't occur and it should never happen again.
What was too have been a special evening and experience was a very frightening one never to be repeated and has put us off excursions altogether.
