We always use The Bistro next to Drop Anchor. Used there for the last 5 years. Food is incredible. never had a bad meal. Service is brilliant. You cannot move without 1 of the lads coming to your assistance! Have watched them grow up and have families of their own. Will miss them, just got back from Goa after 9 weeks. Looking forward to going back again in December
Wheres that shack Goangirl?
Calamari beach Shack Candolim is worth a visit-excellent food-clean flushing toilets-staff polite but could be more friendly-free sunbeds
Gilberts Reggae Shack on Morjim Beach, great staff free beds and no hawkers.
Alex's Delmilton shack on Ashwem again great beach etc and no hawkers.

I hear that on Candolim beach you have to pay 50 rps for your sun bed ......is this so .......
the ganesh shack very friendly people
I agree Ganesh's Shack in Candolim is very friendly and his Hakka Noodles are fantastic.
You do have to pay for your sunbeds at certain times of the year. But come on....R50 is nothing compared to Europe prices. The Goans are not rich people and they do have to make a living!!

We have used Ganesh's for years and yes he does charge for sunbeds,as said - 50rps for a whole day ! He has said he will not compete with other other shacks over this (a guy with some sense). There does seem to be a standard price for beer and food etc.. at all shacks, having called in at most for a drink they are all good shacks with great people running them it's just a case of trying and finding out which you prefer (especially the newbies) I do like the shacks at Sinquerim beech at the Aguada end, seem a bit more 'up-market' than others, but i guess they are catering for the bigger more pricy hotels down there.
Still... a couple of weeks from now and i will be back in paradise, breakfast, lunch and dinner on the beech 'till late watching the sun go down - now 'aint that a great way to spend the day.

We used Ganesh's shack last year and will be returning in a couple of weeks. Great guy, very friendly, good food and service. I have no problem paying 50rps for a whole day on a sunbed. It's well worth it. can't wait to get back.

Rach9. I think my answer went under the wrong topic! This is all very confusing. The Bistro is actually Baga beach! Sorry!
On Baga beach we think the best shack definitely has to be Squeeze, owned by a lovely shy guy called Bobby, and last year his main 'lad' was also called Bobby, a very attentive, intelligent young man. Its the second to the last one at the end of the beach by the river. Free sun beds & towels, excellent service, extensive menu inc. some English dishes. I saw a few kids tucking into burger n chips and we can vouch for their curries. They do a fantastic cauliflower cheese for a few rupees.
They do have a flushing toilet which is ok at the beginning of the day but take a deep breath mid afternoon!
If you like the company of the locals then this is the place to be, the fruit sellers sit around here for their lunch break and often end up all gathered under your brolley if you are kind enough to let them, (if you do you wont get pestered for the rest of the day!)
It is also in front of the bus terminus and if you like people watching then sit back with your buy one get one free cocktail,
and watch all the Goan families come down to the beach between 4-6pm when the heat is not as fierce and most of the tourists have gone.
It's very humbling to watch them having so much fun with an old paint tin as a bucket, sarnies wrapped in newspaper, the men swimming in their shreddies and granny taking to the waters in all her clothes.
Reminds me of Mablethorpe when I was a kid!!!!!!!!!

hi towpal we have to agree ganeshs hakka noodles are fantastic and spike dont forget to say hi to ganesh babu and his sister ayaisha when you go soon
Have to agree it's Ganesh's shack in Candolim, not only is he helpful, friendly and accommodating there is always a great crowd of friendly people regularly using his shack. 50 rupees is a small price to pay for friendly company
Anyone who wants a message passing on to Ganesh pm me with your real name (don't think he knows us by screen names) and i will be happy to mention you.
Oceanic Beach Shack, Baga Beach is fantastic. all the lads are really friendly, it has a brilliant atmosphere, you will get pampered all day. Nice food and its cheap. what else can you ask for?!
