I wonder if anyone can help me please, it would be much appreciated. I booked a holiday to the Can Garden Resort in July, for June 2012. It cost £3660 for five of us, AI, from June 5th-19th. I got a good deal after watching the prices and checking reviews for a few weeks, and managed to get a discounted
child place also. I paid a bit extra for daytime flights and was very happy with the deal.
This Saturday I received a letter from FC saying they are no longer using this hotel and could I ring them for a chat about what to do. I rang immediately and was told there was nothing for the same price but to look for a 'handful' of alternatives and they would see what they could do.
Yesterday I rang asking if we could keep the flights but change to Sherwood Breezes, Riu Kaya Belek, Asteria or a couple of Sharm hotels. The girl priced them up and said they were all coming in at around £900 more, for the five of us, and that FC will only allow £45 per person to make up the difference. I asked if she could help me find something then, and she said 'I'm not a Travel Agent'!
It seems I'm expected to accept a lower standard hotel, and night time flights and probably STILL pay some difference because the prices just aren't the same now as they were in July when I booked. Do I have any rights to expect more of a discount than £45 each? I can ask for a refund but it seems unfair that I should lose the discounts I gained by booking early
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, many thanks for reading
You're right, I'd never really considered the pitfalls of booking early, I've never booked more than about 6 months in advance before!
Anyway the girl in the shop gave me some alternatives around Ibiza, some of which were more expensive than the original ones that we had booked, but she said as they had changed out accomodation then we could book one of the five choices given to us, and they would pay the surplus monies
