Hi,
Please can anyone help as to what I should push for.
We stayed 14 nights in Paridise 4* accomidation all the way!. However our flight home was cancelled due to the plane being faulty and 1st Choice having to bring a further plane over from the UK giving a 25 hour delay.
There was only 1 rep present in the airport at any time, and most of the time they were hiding.
Then we were told that we were being put up in hotels, we ended up in Male the capital, and it was like mini Bankok! The hotel had no resturant, nor water for us. We had to walk over the road to a hotel for food, which was horrid, bugs walking over the table, and food that you just couldnt/Wouldnt eat.
Our hotel room was horrid, there were bugs all over the floor. The towels in the bathroom were dirty. The bedding was dirty, with bugs and blood staines on.
When we went down to find the rep who took us there they had vanished so we were stranded, and the hotel said that they had changed the sheet, but they hadnt.
We spend the night in our clothes sat on the end of the bed.........
Please can you advise.... Ta
Did they say why they didn't accommodate you at Hulhule, the airport hotel as opposed to ship you off to Male (they might as well have sent you back to Paradise Island - I stayed there, and excuse the memory, it's about the same length journey from the airport as Male is)?
Male is really not set up to accommodate a plane load of stranded tourists. This sounds like they really cut corners to save a bit of dosh.
We actually stayed on Veligandu which was a sea plane ride away........and people are booking a year in advance for that island, so I can understand us not being put back there.
However people from our flight went to Male, Paridise island, Blue Laggon.......
I Just cannot beleive that we paid so much and ended up in Mookia hotel Male. (well stranded)
Any ideas what we can do, as this totally spoilt the holiday... we were so relaxed and now we feel that after 42 hours of not sleeping, and the hell hole, we were less stressed before we went on holiday....:-(
Hi I am joining this late but am frustrated after several letters to first choice and them denying there was a problem with The Mookai. Has anyone received any positive offer of compensation from First Choice? I still feel very angry about the conditions we were forced to endure after what otherwise had been a brilliant holiday at Paradise Island. All we have had so far is £30 from insurance. Not good enough.
All we got was a Tuff luck and £100 in first choice holiday vouchers, like we are going to use them again.
I did go to the Manchester Evening News about this, however the story was just not put forward good enough.
I am wondering who to go to, I tried ABTA, however I have no reply from them, may pick this up with them again...
What they did was horrid, how they can say that this hotel was of EU reglation standard just makes me laugh. We had blood stained sheets, dirt on the sheets, and dead bugs on the floor... We didnt sleep all night cos we couldn/wouldnt go near the bed, and to shower the next day we had to use an old dirty t-shirt to dry ourselves cos the towels in the hotel were dirty!
There has to be something, you dont spend 6K on a holiday to be treated in this manner!

The only connection that Ros has with HT is the number of members she has helped.
She neither reads or contributes to the forum and is one of the top people in the country on travel law and its many alleyways.

I will try and contact Ros to see what her view is although it does not seem easy to get her.
Thanks
it will help if you got photographic evidence of the state of the hotel.
I mean it was 10pm, the rep vanished, and the hotel was just horrid..
Like I say, we had blood stained sheets, dead things on the bed, it was just dirty.....
The hotel had no drinking water facilities, and the hotel in which we were sent to over the road, we dirty with bugs crawling on the table, and the food, well I didnt chance my arm.... with it
Do you have any idea what we can do... I have contacted ABTA for them to see what happed....

Check the advice given by FWH further up this thread.
I have just spoken to Ros Fernihough's PA who feels that there is no right to any compensation as First Choice did all they legally have to do by providing us with a meal and accomodation no matter how awful it was. Unfortunately the photos I took did not turn out so I have no visual evidence. I will try one more time and then put it down to bad luck. Apparantly First Choice are not easy to deal with and having seen them on TV this morning I got that opinion.
1. I will never ever fly with them again, shame as the island in the maldives that I love so much is with them.
2. That this is with ABTA, as long as they get a good old telling off, I am happy.
I dont think that this will get anywhere with compensation, I just want them to have to appoligise for this. To date I havnt even had a sorry, even with the voucher.
I will keep this site updated with the movements from abta.
xxx Shame such a wonderfull relaxing holiday was spoilt with this xxxx
That is ultimately all you can do vicandste. Vote with your feet and don't use them again.
