We travelled back on the 18th March , with Monarch. After the usual queueing at the airport we finally got into the baggage control, dripping wet with sweat, but got through and eventually cooled down.
The flight was on time and we all got on the plane but sat for about 40 minutes with no air and once again dripping with sweat before we eventually took off.
We again cooled down, but after about 2 hours seat belt lights lit up and the crew were told to strap in. Wow!!! , severe turbulance for about a half an hour, food all over , people were sick and the experience was very scary. In the end one of the air hostess' said it was the worst experience in 24 years of flying. I thoght our end had come , but on we went to Bahrain.
After leaving Bahrain , the First Officer gave us the news that we had to refuel at Cyprus due to the strong winds. Wonderful , another delay of about an hour.(Its not the first time this has happened, we ended up in Azerbaijan one year, but thats another story.)
Into Cyprus and off again for the 5 hours journey to Manchester.
As we came towards the UK , we were told that Manchester Airport had just re-opened because of snow and that we would have to go around a few times before we could land. It gets worse?
Well eventually we landed about three hours late, and got through customs etc.. quickly. Snow was falling very heavily and we went to get the bus to Q Parks, after waiting for 45 minutes in the snow a bus eventually arrived - by then we are frozen to the core and really rather unhappy.
All I can say is that I will never travel on any flight stopping in Bahrain or wherever and will always book a direct flight.
Apart from the flight we had a great holiday at the Santiago Hotel in Baga and I am looking to book for next year - I must be mad??????
I could not fault Monarch, it was just one of those things.
Happy days?????
Going by your user name you should have gone to Seaburn!.Only joking its bad enough flying without all the extras you had to put up with.
Bre careful when booking a direct flight, always book nonstop, direct means just direct and may mean having a stop.
I've just made the same point about the difference between direct and non-stop flights on the Flight Only/Airlines & Airports Forum.
Direct flights and non-stop flights are not the same.
If you fly to Goa and have a refuelling stop in say Bahrain, then that is a direct flight - you do not have to reclaim your baggage and re-check it in for the next part of the journey.
If you fly without stopping at all, that is (obviously) a non-stop flight.
In my experience, a lot of people working in travel agents are confused about this difference.

we flew back from Goa on the same date as you but on the Monarch 10:50 am non-stop flight into Gatwick, which took off on time but landed about 30 minutes late.
Although Manchester is actually closer to us, we have to cross the Pennines and prefer a 3 hour journey home from Gatwick on motorways.
We had about 15 minutes of quite bad snow around the M25 but I'm sure our journey would have been much worse from Manchester.
