everywhere we went there were signs £10 for different items t shirts, jeans, leather bags ,belts etc.., I was so unhappy to see this, as other not so well travelled tourists, would simply put hand in pocket /purse and give into their demands.
In the markets or shops we did not pay ££££££ but haggled the price right down until we felt comftable with the price we wanted to pay, albeit the price the seller seemed quite annoyed at times that we were getting it for, right now with the world cup and tourists down by 80% you can get a bargain.
But BEWARE turkish market traders and shop owners are experts in selling to tourists ,they have 6 months trade time to sell their wares onto the unsuspecting tourist from the uk thinking you have a bargain, please check quality and the number of items you have haggled for, as sometimes the trader will slip into a bag a lesser quality item.
Im not saying all traders do this but most have tried it in the past.
I have seen it with my own eyes brits paying the price, just the other day in Hisaronu one trader was selling a football shirt for 50 lira, the guy pulled out a few notes and paid the full amount,I got the same shirt for 30.after a few minutes of haggling.
This year the traders are having a bad time due to the lack of tourists spending and will try very very hard to convince you are getting an excellent price ,STOP AND THINK, and if not sure walk away you can always return later to eitherbuy it or haggle further.
