Flights from Luton to Paphos booked on 10/10/07 for travel on 23/10/08 with xl.com.

xl.com have a very odd way of telling you they have cancelled your flights - they don't tell you.

I was clearing out my spam email and found a message 3 weeks old from Mat Thompson with the subject heading. "FW: SCAN FROM A XEROX WORKCENTRE". In the message it said, "have you thought about car hire, we have some fantastic offers". It wasn't until I read down the bottom of the message that it said to open the attachment, which I thought might be a scam or virus.

Only when I opened the attachment did I find a letter telling me that my flights have been cancelled - very odd and yet xl.com have not refunded the money paid. I would have thought a more polite way would be by telephone or letter, not hidden away in an email attachment.

I have telephoned them and they are now arranging a refund.
