Hi, I'm trying to organise a diy holiday for my mum and aunty. They always go to tenerife every March staying at the bouganville playa (Las americas).
They always book with direct holidays, but unfortunately from, next year there are no flights available from Leeds/brad, and direct have stopped taking bookings for the bouganville. Anyway, I have found flights with xl (£309, return for both of them - 16-30 March). Now I have the pleasure of finding the accomodation to this hotel - but where do I start, can anyone recommend a reputable/cheap company please?
This is the first time I have tried to arrange a diy holiday, and if all goes well, will do diy myself for next year. Thanks in advance. BBB.

I've booked a DIY for the first time this year with Alpharooms.com you could always look it up on their website and compare prices. So far Alpharooms have been very good though obvioulsy we haven't had the holiday yet so just hope it all goes to plan.

Hi BBB, you can book it through lowcostbeds.com though I have not used this company myself before I've booked a DIY for the first time this year with Alpharooms.com you could always look it up on their website and compare prices. PS. Make sure you use the new promotion code with the XL flights when you book them for £20 off p.p.
Why not contact the hotel direct:-http://www.iberostar.com/iberostar.asp?conccodi=3&codiconc=26
It's worthwhile also checking rates with a roomfinding agency as well because, strangely enough, they can sometimes undercut the hotel's rates.
Sagres I have found that myself that agency's often come up cheaper than booking with the hotel direct
...........me too
http://www.wintersunshineholidays.com - always find them the cheapest even without my 8% loyalty discount.
But to compare many companies you could try http://www.hotelscomparison.com - they search multiple big accommodation players for the cheapest price.
Jazz.
My favourite is But to compare many companies you could try http://www.hotelscomparison.com - they search multiple big accommodation players for the cheapest price.

Try doing a google search on the hotel. Just had a quick look and found the following:
http://www.reserveahotelonline.com - £1288 Twin Room Half Board
http://www.holidayhotels.com - £1226 Twin Room Half Board
Hope this helps.
Have you already booked the flights?
Wicked chris - No they have not booked the flights yet, until accommodation is sorted, (So keeping fingers crossed - the flight price does not go up!). The cheapest I've managed to find is £309, from leeds/brad, 16-30 march, that's for both of them (Using the discount code "Tesco"- taking £20 off the price. - xl)
They usually pay £1,500 (Give or take a few pounds), happy with flight price, but when accommodation has been added to the £309, it's coming out at more or less, what they have been paying through the travel agent!
Will keep looking though,- I'm determined to get them a good deal!
Thanks everyone for your help, and advice, and sorry I haven';t got back to you sooner, but off to tenerife myself this week, in between moving house, so been very busy, hardly had a moment! Have a lovely weekend all. Regards, BBB.
16/03/2007 30/03/2007 DOUBLE/ TWIN STANDARD HALF BOARD 2 adults £1147.92
Doesn't look as though I'm going to get them a bargain, after all
Thanks again for taking time out to look, it's much appreciated! Regards. BBB.

ooops sorry kazaa - did not read your post fully
The only other thing I can suggest is leave booking your XL flights for a while as they are about £20pp higher than they were a couple of months ago and yet this years flights have mostly become about £20pp cheaper...could be worth waiting it out ..but then its not a risk free strategy
Personally I always think that as far as saving money goes for Med. holidays, DIY only really saves you alot of money if you are a party with 2 young kids, as this seems to be where the bigger mark ups are IMO. There are other advantages to DIY though of course , such as flexibility, choice etc.
PS Don't forget you still have to add in your transfer costs.
Cost is (at the moment) a total of £1566 including flight meals and transfers.

Pippa
Winter Sunshine Holidays are doing it for £1,131.00 plus if you add loyalty discount -8% (returning customer) you'll get it for £1040.50.
Pippa- Looked at the holiday on Thomsons website (I had looked previousely, but the bouganville wasn't coming up - But that was because I was entering playa las americas into the box, instead of costa adje), anyway they have managed to get the holiday for £1,418 including transfers, and entering the word "Bluebird", in the promotional code box (For a £100 off the cost of the holiday), they also declined the inflight meals (Saving £24), as last time they had a meal, all they got was a dried up ham sandwich, crisps, and biscuit!!
Anyway, glad they have got themselves sorted, it doesn't always work out cheaper doing diy (I presumed it would!), but at lease we looked at both options (Thanks to everyone on here), and managed to find them a holiday, for a price they are both happy with. Thanks again. Regards. BBB.
No, it doesn't always work out cheaper to do diy - if there are 'no frills' airlines that fly to your chosen area then it often is. It also depends on the time of year - I think the time you are looking at may be over the Easter period - always more expensive anyway.
We do diy to Majorca but then there are the no frills airlines that fly there from Stansted.
Pippa
The LAST thing you want to be doing to get a bargain DIY is trying to find a holiday for two people in a specific four star hotel at a place where most of the budget carriers don't fly to!
why dont you try private rental it could work out cheaper, costa vacations .com,holidaylettings .co.uk,these are just two who have places in Tenerife, with costa del sol ie malaga airport i know you can get flighs really cheap if you book them months in advance but anywhere else i,m not sure of
