I'm doing a bit of research for our holiday to America which will be either September 2012 or April 2013. I know it is a long way off but we've already got holidays to India and Turkey booked for this year.
My partner has always wanted to visit New York, where as I am more of a beach lover (hence why I seem to get my own way at least twice a year

I know that hotels in NY tend to be very expensive, but what if we stay just outside of NY? . We're not looking for a budget hotel, but something reasonably priced.
We were thinking of just spending about 3 days in New York as we will have our son with us who will be nearly 9 years old.
Will 3 days be ok, or should we aim for a bit longer?
Then we want to head to Florida. We don't want to be in the Disney complex, but would like to stay in a hotel that is less than a 30 minutes drive from Disney. We will be hiring a car, so I'm hoping I will be able to find a beach somewhere?
The plan is to fly from the UK to New York, then get a domestic return flight from New York to Florida, and then catch out returning flight from New York to the UK.
Last but not least, which month would be better to visit, September or April?
Thanks in advance
Nicola
