Have a look here.
Be careful when you go through the scanners at the airports as the wire in the brim sets off the alarm! :whoops

Bought my mother in law a Fendi bag from a shop in Bodrum in 1996 - saved it for her christmas that year and she still has no idea its fake - and the bag still gets an outing now and again! ;)

What is the going rate for a fake bag these days - I like to get myself a little something when I'm away, will haggle, but I really don't want to be insulting, but I honestly have no clue what sort of price the bags go for! :tup

Dont ever be embaressed to haggle it's expected .Just ask for the very best price then half it thats when the haggling begins .

and great fun it is as well especially if you have no intention of moving from the price you want to pay :sun2

Very difficult to know prices as you can get some bags for £10 or less, though they are blatantly crap.

There's only a handful of shops in Bodrum for example where the quality is almost identical to the real thing, and my girlfriend has bought bags from one shop for 3 years consecutively, Miu Miu x 2 and a Tod's bag this year.

She paid £50-70 for each of them, but they are very well made, and will last for years. The shop even offers repairs if any problems. Good range of belts and wallets for us blokes too !

Guzini leather, Bodrum - on the main shopping street leading to Bar Street on left hand side.

Markets usually stay open till around 9 especially when still tourists around to take money off, we stay in Dalyan for 6 months and tell them we live here, different price, got Chanel su.n glasses down from 45 lira to 15 big difference.

You say about haggling its expected i came away from a shop feeling quite insulted after being called a gypsy by a rude woman seller under the kocer club to which i visited every year buying all our clothes/jeans/towels etc,so i will be boycotting her shop next year and :duh visit a more friendly :sun2

Always best to haggle with a guy the women are sometimes a wee bit to serious and you cannot have a bit of banter with them.

I think I need tips on haggling as I was rubbish when I was there. I always just ended up walking off as they weren't for moving on the price of things.

Any tips?

They will always move on the price unless the price you wanted was just to low .Always best to ask first for the very best price which lets them know from the start that you are going to haggle ,then as i say offer half that and he will tell you another price .While you are haggling give a bit of banter like i have fourteen kids to feed and ask him to take off the price of a coke for each of them ,get him laughing call him Ali Baba .As i said the guys will always negotiate .These stalls are not owned by the people who work them but are mostly owned by the big men ,these guys get paid by what they sell and they have a price they just cannot go below ,if they dont sell they dont make wages.

I need to get braver I think, I am not too good at haggling. I will try harder next time and take your advice.

Must be tough, must be tough, must be tough...

I am normally on my own with my daughter and they spend more time fussing over her when I am trying to barter, drives me nutty.... :rofl

Turkey wont be joining the EU in the near future, I wouldn't think it would be for a very long time either.
