Im sorry your husband cannot get the time off work ,but as a ward sister I feel you should discuss your ward problems with your mentor, and we all had to start with the basics. If this is off topic I'm sorry

My OH's boss said i should just go on holiday around Jan, and i will have no problem making up the 2 weeks work that i would have missed,

It's not just a case of making up the work, and holidaying when you feel like it.

When i was recently at Uni, for three years, we where only allowed to miss a certain number of days over that three year period. In addition even when on placement Uni holiday times where set in stone and couldn't be moved

A couple of students missed quite a few days and had to make there time up before being signed off and being able to graduate.

I really feel sorry for you yummymummy,

I hope your time at university soon passes, and as for being made to do the "menial jobs", when your qualified you will be in a position to make sure your students dont have the same learning experience as you

Aren't there specialist message boards for unhappy members of the Health Service where they can let off steam rather than clog up Holiday Truths which, as far as I can tell, is to discuss Goa?

Not a particularly sympathetic comment, was it? :que

And if you read Yummymummy's post properly, SHE works as a student nurse but it's her OH's employer (which she doesn't name) who is refusing time off.

I'm sorry to hear that you can't go to Goa now as you were planning.

i'm in a similar situation yummy mummy. my husband only gets 20days holiday a year and has to keep 3 of those for the christmas shut down. we wanted to goa for three weeks for my 50th birthday so he wanted to take a week upaid but wasn't allowed. 17days holiday is not a lot to get through a year. its not even enough if he used them all at once. still dont want to sound greedy as there are lots of people who cant even go on holiday with the credit crunch!

Sorry to hear your bad news Nicola

I was hoping to go for 3 weeks in march but the problem we have is that my hols start in Jan and OH's start in April and she only has 8 days left which means we will probably have to wait until the end of the year or next march

Hope you get something sorted

Assuming that he can get his doctor to sign a sick note, his next problem would be explaining to his boss how he got a suntan in the middle of winter.

:rofl He could say he has been on the sunbed to help his skin! My father has a skin condition, and his consultant said he recommended short sunbed sessions. Now this is the only time i have heard of a doctor recommending sunbed sessions lol.

Thanks for all of your support, i was just being a big baby yesterday, and i should be lucky that i can even manage to afford a holiday in this current financial climate.

I'm booking our Turkey holiday in the next couple of days, just doing my research on holidaytruths hotel reviews as usual before i book :cheers

It doesnt compete with Goa, but it comes a close second.

Thanks again

Nicola

Sorry to hear that you wont get to Goa as anticipated Nicola. We have a problem getting time off at Xmas as well. Cant do it every year only now and again and I wouldnt get both Xmas and New Year off. Luckily it doesnt bother me going to Goa at that time in the season, so its not an issue for me.
Nice to see you both on the forum and hope you are well xx

I'm definitely no lawyer but isn't that below the legal minimum?

Sorry, I know it's :offtop but holidays are important!!

We have finally booked our holiday to Goa; we leave on the 12th December from Gatwick. We decided we couldn't wait for the price to stay at our favourite hotel to drop, so we just had to bite the bullet and booked.

Our visa applications arrived in Hayes this morning which means I will be stressed until they arrive back.

Roma I work in employment law and unfortunately 20 days is legal. This can even include the bank holiday days, it depends what is in your contract. We all need more holidays!

You don't have to rub it in Silentman. I would as well if I didn't keep spending all my money on holidays. Once the dreaded mortgage has gone then I will be joining you - thankfully the end is in sight.
