Looks like the Russians are giving the Goan authorities a hard time regarding harrassment of their tourists

This article really made me laugh, if any one is to be accused of Racial intolerance, it should be the Russians against the Goans.

i must agree with the previous post, i have found the russians to be very rude and ignorant people, i dont care what part of the world you came from a please or thank you is common language everywhere and we are in the 21st century.
This is why i cannot understand why they have this big beef about the british at present we are most always polite and respectful towards the goans but these days there is a constant barrage of abuse towards us, only a few weeks ago we were on our bike and a guy cut us up, nothing was said but when we caught up with him at a junction he gave us a look of disgust, my husband then said "do you realize you nearly had us off the bike " we were told to f....off to our own country and to leave them alone. my husband just shrugged his shoulders and carried on.
To be honest we have had enough of being the scape goats for other peoples bad attitudes and behaviour and now want out and i never thought i'd say that after living here all the time for 6 years but as the months go on i have become to hate goa.

I feel so sad to hear you say that poppetjay! Been going to Goa for the last 10 years for a couple of months. It was always my piece of paradise, but it is changing. Hope it doesn't get any worse. Got enough of things going wrong here!

i think in many ways the Brits are being penalised because of this business with the Russians buying land etc we have got caught in the crossfire so to speak yes sad

One minute the Goans are compaining about the Russians, taking over parts of Goa, the next campaining for more tourists.
I sincerly hope that if a new visa system is ever introduced, it will be available to all visitors, not just Russians.

Not spending enough money obviously!

Seems like no one in Goa can decide who they want as tourists... laughable.

I think this could be my last trip to Goa... have to broaden my horizons.

The problem is we are not helping there economy enough, by buying there drugs, there are a lot of dealers who need helping out, perhaps we should give more of our money to there cause!!!!

I think maybe if we lunched on Tiger Prawns, Lobster, Crab (all three at once) ..... EVERY day.. and that's only LUNCH for 2 healthy Russians we would be more appreciated. Seen some amazing gastronomic feats!

Maybe that's why most shack owners don't mind them drinking their own bottles of vodka. If they want to make more money from the average UK tourist the beer would probably have to go up by 50%.

There was an article last week about the Russians complaining of Racism against them and their government getting shirty with India over it, and this is the response maybe us Brits should shout a little louder? then again would our government do anything ? Your absolutely right Chilly - most of my Goan friends don't like the Russians at all! As for spending money, my F & B Manager friend who was at the P. Park told me that the Russians staying there would hoard food from the breakfast buffet to eat during the day whilst they were relaxing by the pool. He put a stop to that little s c a m! Obviously they aren't all rich with endless amounts of dosh (any more than we are) but us Brits just wouldn't do that sort of thing.

The opinions about the Russians seem to be mixed.

When we were in Goa in December, the shack owners and restaurant owners couldn't do enough for them, to the point that we were ignored.

We were told that most of them were first timers and were spending most of their money on the beach, buying bits and bobs from the sellers and having lobsters etc at lunch.

There is a restaurant just outside of our hotel where the Russians were given preferential treatment, although that didn't stop us from going there.

We were told by one shack owner that there weren't that many Brits out there and those that were there were not spending that much.

We have never had any problems with the Russians, those that speak English are very nice.

I think that the Indian Government should be trying to encourage all nationalities to go to Goa and not just focus on the one.

They are the new `Cash Cow` waiting to be milked the few I managed to speak to were fine but needed prompting to converse a little, on the other hand I met some really shady gangster looking types in Arpora who always gave me a very firm handshake every time I saw them in the bar at Renton Manor

Sorry to say the few Russians I have come into contact with in Goa have been downright arrogant and rude. Pushing you out of the way with not even an "excuse me" and queue jumping at the airport for instance. Maybe they were late getting there for their flight (which was the explanation I was given by someone) but hey, the rest of us managed to get up in the middle of the night to arrive in time. Anyway IMO there is no excuse for bad manners.

Lets not turn this into a Russian hating thread please.

Sorry Fiona, I don't hate Russians, I only know one Russian personally. I do however hate bad manners, (doesn't really matter if its a Russian or not it just happened that these people at the airport were). I would say the same if they were of another Nationality.

Fizzy, ive met a lot of brits like that too. and a few of them worse than that
