Goa vs Sharm

Having been to both I am not sure there are a lot of comparisons

Sea is calmer and clearer in Sharm
Hassle whilst shopping is not much different however think Sharm is slightly more agressive, but hassle to come into my shop in both resorts
Great restaurants in both resorts adn laid back evening entertainment
Feel Goa is more laid back and hotels are of a lower standard than Sharm
Weather in both is excellent however the evening in Sharm in Jan/Feb will be cold
Sharm slightly more expensive in restaurants but still cheap. Beer is reasonable in Sharm but vodka is expensive

Both resorts are excellent choices for winter sun however IMHO Goa wins, but would be interested in your views

Hope this helps

Cheers Taffy, from what I've read so far I'd rather be going back to Goa, but I'll give it a chance.
It looks like it'll be a lot cooler in Sharm than in Goa.

sorry, but we went to sharm for 2 weeks in september, the first thing we promised ourselves when we got back was that next time we would be going back to goa.

we went all inclusive as most hotels tend to be, but found it very restrictive as most hotels are quite isolated, nothing within walking distance at all.

dont get me wrong, the hotel (three corners st. georges) was lovely, but just not enough things around to be able to wander around like candolim.

im sure its for some people, but not for me. as im sure goa isnt for some people either!

to me there was just that special thing missing, not sure what it is, but it wasnt there!

I think it is almost unfair to compare them as they are very different.....Sharm is very sanatised and Naama Bay whilst having a nice buzz is almost Mediteranean in feel, the snorkelling is absolutely amazing and we had a wonderful trip. We did though fly up to Cairo for a day (for £30 return) and also to Luxor for the same price as well as climbed Mt Sinai which was absolutely stunning. Sharm doesn't have the magic of Goa (but then where does) but Goa doesn't have the Pyramids, Egyptian museum, Valley Of The Kings, Karnak Temple, Mt Sinai etc...so we are really glad we visited and we really did have a great adventure.....would we return.....not by booking well in advance but if we saw a good last minute deal then yes, where as with Goa we would plan and book in advance time and time again and will be in Goa at Xmas 08.....
p.s. Luxor is far more rough and ready than Sharm and certainly Egypt and not remotely European (if that makes sense)
