Pradaboy,
Take a couple of days to settle in and get to know your surroundings, going for walks early in the morning will give you a chance to meet the locals.
If you intend on hiring a bike or scooter don't do it on the first day - check out prices first otherwise you'll find yourself paying over the odds. Make sure that if you do hire one it has black plates with yellow no's, this is the new law for bike hire, oh and always carry your international driving licence.
As you'll be a long stayer (4 months - I think that qualifies you), you should try to meet other long stayers because they've usually got a friend of a friend who can point you in the right direction without being ripped off. Never tell a taxi driver, shop owner, guest house manager that it's your 1st time in Goa, otherwise they'll have dollar signs flashing before their eyes!!
Go with the flow and enjoy!!
GFF xx
