"it will still be hot"?... its will be roasting, scorcheeoo hot... We go around the end of August most years and its been 35°C and above... (one year we saw just shy of 40°C at 11:30am)...
Restaurants all over the island serve a variety of dishes, styles and types so depending on what you want and how much you want to spend will depend on which ones are best for you (its probably best to get some ideas of what is about from people on here then look when you get there).
If you want Greek/Cypriot food then look for things like -
Kelftco - a slow roasted lamb dish (normally shanks) so soft and tender that you can eat it with a spoon !
Stifado - a rich redwine and vineger based sauce normally with beef and baby onions (its not exclusive to beef though as you can sometimes find things like octupus stifado or rabbit etc but generally its beef unless you go out of your way to find something else)
Tavas - oven braised pork and potatoes
Afelia - pork with corriander seeds, wine and vinegar (a stew with lots of flavour)
Then there are the other more side dishes and meze type foods (think buffet food)
Koupes - a sausage shaped mince meat dish with a cracked wheat fried coating (looks like a round fish finger maybe) served with a slice of lemon to squeeze on (these are surprisingly good)
Dolmades - stuffed vine leaves, filled with a mix of minced meats, rice and spices wrapped in a soft vine leave
Keftedes - spicy meatballs sometimes served with or in a sauce
Sheftelia - A sort of spicy sausage (a personal favourite of mine)
Spanakopita - feta cheese and spinach made into either one large pie that is served in slices or as small individual pies
Souvlaki - skewers of pork or chicken kept moist with lemon juice, garlic, olive oil, oregano as they cook (some chefs will use other spices like rosemary or majoram etc)
Souvla - like souvlaki above but much bigger chunks of meat done a larger scale (still haven't found a place that does this where we go...)
Then you have dips often served with pitta bread (note the Cypriot pitta bread is much better than those things you see in the local kebab shop)
Houmous - a fabulous chickpea, garlic, tahini, lemon juice, salt and pepper dip
Tahini - a paste made with ground seasame seeds (a little bit like peanut butter in flavour but more bitter) (I love the stuff)
Taramasalata - a fish paste, great for those who love fish
Tzatziki - yoghurt, garlic and cucumber dip.. very refreshing
and don't forget you are in Cyprus the home of the Cyprus potato !! anywhere that makes fresh chips or oven baked potatoes are well worth a visit !
