Hi Graham!

Sorry I have not yet seen the Manos 2008 brochure yet

But...

from what you are describing, I would say take a look at Elounda in Crete or perhaps the island of Symi off Rhodes. 8) These are both fishing villages with hills directly behind.

Hope this may be of some help to you :?:

Hi Kiltman-Graham,

The harbour does look lovely- sorry I can't identify it. The beach on the opposite page looks gorgeous also. Nice and quiet. Not much to go on though as to where it might be.

Hi shirley :wave nice to hear from you again.

I wish travel companies would put a location beside their pictures in brochures :rage don't they realise it would help sell the holiday !

Somebody I am sure will come up with the answer :wink

Good morning Graham

Yes, I received the photo. My idea was to identify the port's name out of boat registration letters i.e. "Saint Nicholas - P(port)/Naxos" Or, any Road sign or hotel name
Unfortunately I could n't see these letters, so I will search through my huge data base to find out where this picture was taken. It will yake me some time and I cannot promise anything but a try.

Regards, Spyros "Skyllis"

MariaH!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

I believed to be first to recognize it but...........you are better than me, or you have been there many times.....lolololol...or been born there!

Anyway, Paralion Astrous is close to Nafplion, one of most erotic cities of Greece. Graham, be sure you will love it

Hi Skyllis - we went last year as part of a fly/drive holiday from Athens. Booked accommodation privately and got a huge apartment for 40 euros a night. It was very quiet in early May - we got there before the first charter flight of the season. Not many UK tour operators go there, I believe it is mainly Greek visitors - we loved it! Loved Nafplion too!

Thank you Maria you are a star :kiss

It looks lovely, I take it it's not to commercialised or spoilt by mass tourism :?:

Your photos's are superb (everybody should look at them) and they capture the Peloponnese perfectly.

Paralion Astrous is close to Nafplion

Could you hire a car and go Nafplion for the day, or would you have to stay for a couple of days or would you stay in Nafplion and go to Paralion Astrous for a couple of days ?

Thank you everybody

I believe that Paralio Astros is relatively quiet outside July/August when it is filled with Greek visitors. The harbour is very attractive and there are sandy beaches at either side of the resort. You could go from Paralio Astros to Nafplion (or vice versa) for the day - we didn't go that way round but I'd say about an hour and a half drive at a guess.

Because of a mess up in bookings, we actually ended up staying in Tolon (about 10 minutes south) rather than Nafplion itself, as we'd planned but both Nafplion and Paralio Astros are worth a stay.

We went independantly, booked a flight to Athens and hired a car. We stayed 3 nights each in Tolon, Monemvassia and Paralio Astros and a night in the airport hotel before we flew home. We visited some fantastic places. Only thing I would have changed is 1 night less in Monemvassia and an extra night in Paralio Astros - and I'd have stayed in Nafplion rather than Tolon. There were lots of beautiful places to visit from each and en route between them.

Good morning friends

MariaH, Tolon is NE of Nafplion & Astros, not South.

Some little informations regarding area of Astros

1) worth visiting is the long beach of Karathonas behind Nafplion
2) Near Astros there is an area called "Ellinikon" where you can see one of the oldest Pyramids in Greece mentioned by Pafsanias - did you know there were Pyramids in Greece?, well actually there are 3 !
3) Swimming at Astros beach remain at the sandy part of beach which is long enough I believe. never go to the north rocky part as there is a dangerous maelstorm at sea (hope I use the right word)
4) while at Nafplion take a long walk round "arvanitia", where port ends. It is amazing! end not forget, take your girlfriend or wife with you as it is very romantic......leave mother in law at the hotel........or better give her instructions how to take a swim at Astros maelstorm.

As Nafplion & Chania are my favourite towns I' ll be here for any questions

Spyros

P.S. Graham, which place is the flag of your avatar?
