Thanks Gavin.
This haggling thing has got me worried, I've never done that before
OK this is a silly question and should likely start a new thread.
But how do you know what is reasonable, or if they say £10 do I give a silly low offer and what
Do they get upset if you offer a low amount
Well if it gets too stressful I could always give up shopping.
I know this sounds silly but it really worries me
Any advice would be much appriciated
if you ask for something and they give you a price, I was told to offer about half of what they ask and to plan on paying about 60% ish.
If you offer too little you will know as they will let you walk away, if they chase you or get you to stay then you know that you are still a prospective customer.
Do they get angryif you offer too little?
never in my experience, they just say "no, not enough". If you then leave and they don't stop you then your offer was too little.
DONT WORRY, its all part of the fun. You are there to enjoy yourself, not to make the shopkeepers happy!
enjoy
Del
Please tell me I read it wrong, but someone posted a reply saying they had done this when trying to be enticed into a restaurant. They haggled the price of their meal
Surely this cant be right
You don't have to haggle over everything do you?
I can see I am going to make a total fool of myself :ROFL

It's a real pain paying for food that he's not going to eat.
He lives on milk, I take it they pasturize milk the same way we do? Sorry I know that sounds a stupid question but its just crossed my mind.
never haggled at restaurants, but if trade is poor they will sometimes offer free coffee, or fruit etc.
as long as you are happy with what you pay, it doesn't matter if you have paid over the odds.
I am certain that even the most ardent bargainer has been beaten once.
re milk.
we have bought cartons of the stuff, so I suppose its the same as here.
It doesn't come in a jug straight from the cow !!
del
will keep that in mind.
I must sound like a wimp but it can be rather strange going to a country where you don't know any of the customs or acceptable behaviour. So I'm hoping to use this site to get a good idea before I go.
I really hate the idea of doing things wrong or up setting anyone
and if it doesn't taste the same he will starve :bhead. Mind you never know your luck he might have decided to eat by next year
I'm really looking forward to it, but its not till October 05
any advice on anything much appreciated
Thanks everyone
where are you staying. Gavin
Am staying at the Iguana apartments
Thanks I will have a good search of the forum and see what I can find.
I offer what I think its worth which is usually about 30% of what they want and if they take it good but if not then thats ok.
John
I usually have to request that they leave things off my meal as I find them difficult to finish and believe me I can eat. As for kids they will bend over backwards to oblige with a menu for them. powdie
I am certainly glad you don't haggle at restaurants.
And I understand how Holiday resorts work in as much as the locals will be earning the majority of there annual income during the season.
Just trying to get a general idea of how things work in Turkey as I have never been there before.
All help greatly appreciated thanks
