Hi all,
I have just been & bought this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2861436.htm If anyone looking to buy a new holdall with wheels for their holiday, this is pretty good considering the price, & you get a barrel bag & smallish rucksack with it.
Sorry if this is in the wrong place mods.......didn't quite know where to put it!!
Deb.
I recently bought a wheeled holdall for £15 but this is great value as it has the bag and rucksack.I think its time to dump my suitcases and start travelling light as the airlines are nearly all cutting their allowance to 15kgs.
That was exactly my thoughts too, you'd be surprised at how much lighter holdals are & how much you can get in them.
I am very happy with my purchase, they are a fair quality too.
Deb.
Thanks for the tip. I went on-line and reserved the holdall set to collect tomorrow for my husband.
I have used one for my last 4 holidays and find it much easier, both because of it being light and also easy to pack.
Sue
Hi Sue,
Just had a look and reserved mine , how do they compare cases with clothes creasing
Ive just reserved them for pick up on monday. I needed a holdall for weekends away and the suitcase is perfect for light travelling. The last suitcase I took on holiday weighed nearly as much as the stuff in it!
Any feedback on the holdall set anyone.....are you happy with them?
No more posts, so was a bit worried you couldn't get them!
We are off to Majorca for a few days next month, so I will try mine out.
Deb.
I was quite keen on getting this set and the holdall we pack doesn't have wheels. However hubby pointed out that this one probably had a hard base and wouldn't be flexible enough to pack in the case for use on the way home.
Thanks for the recommendation, and yes we are pleased with the set, it was a good bargain.
Sue
No, it wouldn't be flexible enough to pack, as, it has a handle that pulls up, therefore it is rigid on the bottom, it's more for packing & checking in I would say. Although the barrel bag that comes with it is a fair size, but probably too big to fit in the hand luggage compartments at the airport.
Sue, so glad you are pleased with yours. We are pleased with ours too.
Will keep my eyes open for any more bargains....!!
Deb.
Thanks Deb, that's what I thought.
We took one to the Caribbean a few years back, it arrived OK but as it was coming round the conveyor it got bashed sideways by a suitcase and they all got stuck. With the belt still going and more cases pushing from behind it got dragged into the side of the belt and split open. By the time it was freed from the mechanism it was bent, battered and unusable as were some of hubbies clothes that also got caught and torn. While this might have been an isolated incident thought I would mention it because my son also had an experience on train journey to Devon. The zip gave way at the wrong end, fortunately he had a belt in the bag to keep it together for the rest of his journey.
From this I would recommend a strong luggage strap at least on these and to check the quality of the zips.
Hi Deb, I think you should contact Argos and see if you can get some commission, lol. I bought a set yesterday and after getting it home and having a look at it, I went out today and got another one. They are ideal for us. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
Thank you, I am so pleased to have helped others, I wasn't actually looking for luggage, I was browsing the net for discount codes & this jumped at me, so I reserved it & went straight out to collect, (we now have 3 holdals...) oh well always handy.
The barrel bag is a lovely size for a weekend away perhaps in this country. & backpack great for hand luggage!
As silverpixie says, it would be wise to put a luggage strap around the bigger one as accidents can happen, we do this anyway with cases & holdals, so I'd hope we'd be safer!
What a horrible thought, our luggage sprawled over the conveyor belt .
Deb.
hi everyone, just to add my little bit of info. i bought a holdall from argos about 8months ago. it cost £9.99...just plain, black with wheels. i bought it for when our little boy visits his grandparents...thinking it would be ideal. when i collected it..oh my god..it was huge...fits absolutely everything in...even the kitchen sink!!! best tenner ever spent..and not a rip or tear to be seen yet. not sure if they still stock it..infact gonna check !!!. while im on a roll, bought 2 large suitcases in matalan sale a few weeks ago..with wheels and the 2pully up" handles..grey and pale blue...£15 each..bargain. bye for now, sue
Hi,Purchased this holdall set yesterday, children have already decided they want it for our next holiday.Had loads of these still in stock at our local Argos. Thanks for the tip off.
You are welcome shazzacat.
Just a point on whether a holdall fits hand baggage dimensions. The usual test at checkin is whether it fits in the test frame, if you have a soft bag that's not full and squashes down it might.
I use a rucksack which is technically too big but I never fill it and once the air is squashed out it will fit under the seat in front. When I get to checkin it's often greeted with a suspicious look but I just show them how small it squashes down to and they are happy.
Last Saturday I bought a holdall with wheels, 32" long for £14.99, original rice was £29.99. Again this was from Argos, its blue with strong handles each end of the holdall, with a shoulder strap, and the retractable handle. The bag itself weighs 4kgs, I've got everything in it I need for my holiday and it's still only weighing 18.2kgs, max weight allowance 20kg in case/holdall with Eurocypria! We still have 5kg hand luggage allowance too!
