yes you can take your own food on the plane, when we went away last year we had meals on the plane but our friends didn't as they took sandwiches, crisps etc, the only thing you can't do is take drinks, but these can be bought once through security
This year we are not having meals on the plane as our kids don't like them either, so I will be buying our stuff from greggs and taking that on the plane with us

We usually get drinks like fruit shoots etc from wh smith's once we are through security for on the plane and coach etc. A hell of a lot cheaper than on the plane and bigger bottes too!
We usually are at manny at 4/5 am as our flight is usually 7 ish am and everything seemed to be opened last time. Different story at Gatwick though.

Your welcome , we never get in-flight meals now they are
well they were last year, so we'll just stick to our own food at least we will eat it and not have to pay over the odds for something we don't like

just measured a small holdall a was going to take for hand luggage it measures 36x36x23 but the dimensions on the ticket are 55x40x20 (thomsons) is the bag to big.
i'm think i took this bag last time i travelled with thomsons but can't be certain (terrible memory)
do you think i will be allowed to travel with this bag or look for something else as it is slightly big.
not much time left flying in the morning.
thanks tracey

trasjohno,
You should be fine with that. It's only when bags look like they are too big that you'll get questions. Your's is pretty much within limit and if needed, you'd be able to squash that in the testing basket.

The posts by David on Page 1 of this topic are still current.
Hand baggage size and weight depends on the airline. You should be able to find the dimensions in the relevant airline topic.

trasjono, I've used a backpack which is 45x35x25 with the extension being used and I've not had a problem at Dublin, Stansted, Faro or Copenhagen. I was half expecting questions at Stansted but I think they're using common sense so if bag looks under on 2 but slightly over on 1 dimension that they allow it.
For anyone using Belfast International, be very careful with what type of bag you use for liquids, they are really strict, my bag from Accessorize wasn't allowed so I had to buy the ones from the machine (3 bags for £1). Another passenger wasn't allowed to use the bag she'd brough as the pressable close wasn't right, the member of staff said it didn't close properly. The reason for my Accessorize bag not being allowed was that it's too big, I said that I'd used it at Dublin, faro and Stansted with no bother and he was surprised. belfast International don't according to the member of staff allow 3d bags. Hubby's bag was ok and that was the one made by Baco and yes it does have the logo on it and is 20x18cms. What I did do was to put the bag from the machine inside the Accessorize one when I got bags back after being scanned. Accessorize bag is actually 20x19.5 cms capacity. Bags from machine are 18x19cms so smaller than the allowed of 20x20cms and their website says 20x20cms as well.
I've also not had anything said about having a bumbag as well as backpack (have left room in backpack for bumbag to go in if anything has been said). Bumbag is only very small though. For latest trip I also had camera case and pouch with iPod and accessories attached to the strap of my bumbag (one each side of the bag) and nothing said about that. Lady at Copenhagen did say I'd got a lot in my backpack but I explained that I put anyhting valable, breakable, sentimental in hand luggage and that Easyjet don't have a weight limit, bag was probably 7 kilos. On return, hubby was carrying plastic bag with our coats in and crisps, nothing said about that either at Copenhagen or Stansted. Big
has to go to Stansted. Maybe hubby and I were lucky and got staff with common sense rather than ones who apply the rules to the letter.
to Copenhagen as well, hubby and I forgot about bottle of water in the carrier bag which went through at same time as my liquids bag so i saw the person by the tv screens stopping and looking closely. I actually said 'What am I about to lose? assuming that there was a problem with something in my bag, lady heard me and said nothing and explained about bottle of water, both hubby and I apologised and said we'd forgotten about it, lady was really understanding and asked if we wanted to have a couple of sips before she took it.

Yes I can vouch that at Belfast on my last trip they were over the top about the plastic bags. My bag was too big despite every other airport including JFK Heathrow Manchester etc etc allowing. The man said that all the other Airports were wrong and he was not going to budge. Only 3-4 items in the bag. Travelling next week to Venice so have the correct or even smaller that allowed bag.
My hand baggage little rollaway is 2cms over in one dimension but under in the other 2. It fitted into the Jet2 baggage cage so will be OK I am sure. Jet2 have slightly smaller dimensions than others which is why my bag is over by their measurements.

I had 9 items in my bag but all well under 100mls, I think the largest was 50mls. Bag closed ok. I don't know wny Belfast are being so strict.
I have a question about hand luggage.
I've seen a few posts that hand luggage is only 5KG, but I went on the Thompson site and said that Hand Luggage is at 10KG.
Do I go by the site?

Depends on the Airline Jet2 have 10K cabin baggage also Ryanair is higher than 5K can't remember just how much. BA say you have to be able to lift it to the storage so don't know the answer. If it is Thomson and their web site is 10K then I think this will be correct.
