It was package holidays full stop that I was nearly put off for life after a trip to Menorca 7 years ago :!:

We were really looking forward to it, the first all inclusive we had been on since our youngest (then 18 months) was born. Got off to a great start when after we had gone through passport control our 4 year old spiked a temperature. This turned into a full blown chest infection with numerous types of antibiotics from the hotel doctor, hubby then rapidly went down with the same.

Hotel was very disappointing, tiny crammed rooms and a balcony with no light, so when the children went to sleep we had to sit outside in darkness or just give in and go to bed ourselves. Food wasn't great either and the towel game was awful.

The return flight was a nightmare- youngest on my knee, with husband one side of me and 4 year old on the other and we had fierce turbulence. I'm the cowardly flyer, but spent all my time distributing sick bags- great fun :!: :!:

Needless to say after that, it was probably a good 3 or 4 years before I even considered booking another package holiday. We had some great self drive holidays to France etc instead.

Pam :D

Best place -Benidorm

I always turned my nose up at the idea (Until other half pursuaded me to give it a go!), - I have to say I loved it, and won't consider going anywhere else now (and I always said I would never visit a place more than once - some may think "How sad", but I'm totally in love with the place, - so much to do, and see, (and we don't spend as much here - prices seem to be cheaper than anywhere else we have holidayed!) and my son was never "bored" once, - which is a big plus

Worst Places: Tenerife (Playa las americas)

- mum's been going here for last 15 years, raves about the place - decided to go last year - won't go into too much detail (dont want to upset the tenerife lovers), but it wasn't my cup of tea, evening family entertainment (we found), was non exsistent.

Another place which we wont be returning to is Benalmadena (Costa del sol), so overpriced, we seemed to get ripped off wherever we went, the evening family entertainment was non exsistent too!

Think we have been spoilt with all benidorm has to offer, - so when we go anywhere else, we always end up disappointed!

Have to say our worst one was Tenerife too- but the fact it rained most days had a lot to do with it

People have different expectations from a holiday, I really like Tenerife and have been visiting for over twenty five years now, though I'm sure if the first time I went I had stayed in PLA I would have never have returned, it's sheer size and tawdriness horrifies me, though a cousin loves the place and returns every year. I really don't like large resorts so the much more unspoiled north or north west suits me.
I went to Lanzarote on a last minute holiday a couple of years ago and had very mixed feelings about going but was really taken with the island and would quite happily return . Evening entertainment doesn't really interest me as I grew up having to make my own, so just some nice restaurants and somewhere to walk is all I need.
I went to Benidorm almost 40years ago, never to return, it was too big then goodness knows what it is like now. But I know that it has it's devotees.
Good weather can really make or break a holiday, I'm usually pretty lucky and had raved about Thailand to a friend so after touring Malaysia a few years ago we added on a week in Thailand. It poured with rain the whole time, in fact we had floods, needless to say she didn't enjoy the week and won't return.

Ibiza
4 years ago booked to go to Corfu and subsequently saw the hotel we'd booked on "Holidays from Hell" - a quick visit to Travel Agents resulted in us booking for Ibiza as this was recommended by the Travel Agent and not much choice left for the time of year we wanted to travel - must say was quite apprehensive - after all you think of Ibiza as being full of 18-30 party animal types but was totally blown away by the beauty of the island - we stayed in Cala Llonga and our hotel room had a fabulous sea view - the bay is totally stunning backed by pine clad mountains. Hired a car for a few days and managed to see quite a lot of the island - so easy to travel around and the roads good - really surprised and not at all what I was expecting.

Lanzarote. My wife and I went last year to Costa Teguise in April with high hopes but we had poor weather for the week which put a real dampener on our impressions of the island. However, we ended up going back again this Easter on a late deal as our first choice of Spain was itself having a really poor spell of weather at the time. This time we had a much better holiday with perfect weather which allowed us to see all the island's sights in a different light. As a result we returned with a much higher opinion of the island. As others have said, it just goes to show how important a factor good weather is when it comes to our enjoyment of holidays.
