fed in to the terminal building 6 at a time from each Que you then joined the Que's for the baggage scanner (they only have 2) again being fed half a dozen at a time from each Que in turn then to booking in and baggage weighing only 3 gates open, then back outside for a while as there isn't much room in the terminal Finlay through passport control as you enter the 1&2 gate area and wait to board it was organized chaos glad we don't travel in the school holidays

Wizard,
Thanks for the info.
How long did it take you to get through the airport both on arrival and on departure?
Did you enjoy Kos? I have only ever been to Rhodes but have heard some great things about Kos.

Hi Scampy,

We are going to Cyprus in Sept., and Larnaca can be hectic.

Last year it was Paphos, and tho it wasn't the best of flight times it was worth it, absolutely no hassle either in or out.

Janet,
I know the airport can be hectic but our problems came from Thomsons not having designated desks for each flight and the reps were no help whatsoever.
I am a Cyprus lover but thought I would give Greece a try as I have only ever been to Rhodes and that was for a family wedding so it was hectic.
Do you know when the Illios opens for the season?

first choice are just as bad as Thomson departing gatwick they had a bank of desks open all booking in for any flight they did however have separate desks for the Manchester and gatwick flights at Kos.

how long to get from ques to check in about 40 Min's (we were lucky)

did we enjoy our holiday, ni efharisto ( yes thank you). For those interested we went to the Aegean Village i will be doing a report in a few days but words of wisdom, the tour operators give this a 4 / 4+ /and even 4+Superior the property is an apart hotel and therefore doesn't have an official star rating but dose hold a class A certificate for apart hotels, this would normally equate to about three and a half stars but it was far Superior to many proper 4 and 4+ hotels we have stopped in around the med. I only overheard a couple of moans one was no chips at dinner, another men must were long trousers (not 3/4) in the dining room, and one saying it wasn't 4+ which i knew and most people did not care,
it was 25 to 30 deg most days one day peeked at 35,with clear blue Skye's

Must have loads in common as we have been going to Cyprus for 20 years and am not at all sure about Kos. However the Illios has loads of good reviews so heres hoping.

As far as I can see it opened last week for the season, was wondering about sending them an email re keeping our room. Haven't decided on that one yet.

Wizard, what's your thought on going in early with a taxi to the airport then?

Cheers,
Janet

it may put you at the front of the cue for your flight but they probably wont let you check in early

WE should have departed about 14.10 finally got away at 14.45 the usual problem some pi** head could not pull himself away they were at the point of off loading all the hold luggage to take his out just as he turned up without a by your leave

We go to Cyprus every year usually via Larnaka have never had a problem even afternoon departures in July

yes i would recomend Kos

Janet,
I have read all the reviews and it sounds great. I e-mailed them last night about keeping the room and the price of air-con as yet had no reply, will let you know if they do.

Wizard,
Glad you enjoyed your holiday, it sounds as if Kos is a lovely island.
Which resort did you stay in?
Also can you recommend any excursions.

Your input has been very helpful, thanks.

Thanks Wizard we are thinking of doing all that you mentioned.
I am not sure about the Greek night though it has some bad reviews on other forums. I have been told that the sunset in Zia is not to be missed though.

Hi Scampy!

We fly out from Manchester on the 22nd of June for a fortnight staying at the ilios hotel.

Some friends put us on to this place a while back and it seems fine to me.

See for yourself.

Hi Scampy,

I had emailed about keeping the room as well..... Got a reply this morning, 30 euros, so will decide when we get there.

It's only the 2 of us so it's not really a great hassle, aaaand.... it's always another £20 Thisbe money for Cyprus in September

Also asked them about an iron, you can get one from reception (keeps the wieght down in the cases)

Thanks Janet. I got a reply this morning, I may have to rethink the air-con as they said it will cost 100 euros for the fortnight. As you know you budget for your hols and 100 euros is a bit steep but may not have a choice if the rooms are really hot and stuffy. My niece who is 16 and coming with me says she can think of a lot better things to spend the money on.

Why not consider taking a portable fan with you as we did? Granted it's a far cry from air conditioning but it did help quite a bit. We managed to fit a decent size fan into our suitcase and are reasonable to buy in Argos or Woolworth. I think it'll probably be quite stifling to try and sleep in the Greek temps without anything.

Think that's what I'll do Shirley.

I have a nice little one that wld do the job nicely. To tell the truth we have never had air cond. I have been able to sleep with anyway, too noisy for me as I am a very light sleeper.

PLUS..... being Scottish I grudge the extra, think it should be included in the price and it's just another rip-off!
