We went to Hisaronu 20 July to Pinara Apartments. On first impressions we thought we were in the middle of nowhere, but soon found that actually we were only 10 mins walk to the main part, albeit downhill, which in the heat did become quite a slogg back up the hill, it wasnt too bad at night time when it was cooler, but almost impossible during the day in the blistering heat - so therefore a Taxi is needed, although this only costs about £3.
The Apartments were perfect, we were in a one bed apartment, but very roomy and everything we needed including a washing machine which I have now found is a godsend on holiday as you dont end up with a massive pile of washing when you get home.
The pool was MASSIVE! and never overcroweded - the only point I would make there was definately not enough umberellas to go round when it was busy, so much so that one person decided it was a good idea to take one in with him at night time, I can see where he was coming from as he had a family with him, but we were all in the same boat, and I personally thought it was bad him hogging the umberella. Some of the residents eventually went out and bought their own umbrellas.
We had some lovely meals namely in Dragonara which was absolute the BEST chinese we have had in a long long time and ate there three times, the only advice I would give is book a table or go early otherwise you are waiting a while for a table. Also The Swallow was lovely too, and ate there three times also. We did have some not to good meals too, but cant remember the names of the restuarants.
Olu Deniz beach is gorgeous - stunning ! and watching the paragliders is awesome - we werent so impressed with the Blue Lagoon, thought that was overrated.
Although we had a lovely relaxing holiday and enjoyed the area, we did feel that Hisaronu is lacking in the "turkish hospitality". We normally go to Icmeler (4 times) and made some lovely life long friends there - this year we didnt get to know anyone - they just seemed to get on with it, and didnt seem particularly interested in you. Icmeler is much more inviting and friendly.
If I could have picked up the apartments as these are by far the best we have ever stayed in, and the beach which beat Icmeler hands down and place in Icmeler it would be paradise.
So all in all, I loved Olu Deniz, but prefer Icmeler for the "warm welcome and friendly banter", but my youngest daughter prefered Hisaronu because there was no touchy feely waiters, which she doesnt like.
We will be back to Hisaronu mainly because of the apartments and beach. But will hopefully return to Icmeler also.
We are thinking about Olu Deniz for our main 2 week holiday next June.
We visited it for a day when we stayed in Calis in 2004 and thought it looked nice and relaxed.
We only passed through Hisaranou on the dolmus so only had a glimpse of the place as the dolmus stopped for a few minutes. There seemed to be lots of music bars etc and it reminded us a bit of a mini Marmaris-not sure if that is a fair assessment but we will venture over to Hiaranou for a proper look if we do end up in Olu next year.
The manager of one of the bar/restaurants we frequented even phoned to make sure we'd got home ok! Unsurprisingly my friends frequent his establishment when they go back to their villa. They go in plenty of other restaurants too and are recognised and welcomed each time.
It was my first time to Turkey in May and I was a little apprehensive but I found the place delightful and the locals very friendly.
We used the Taxi as our apartments were right at the top of the hill, at the bottom of the Babadag Mountain, the regulars in apartments say that hopefully the Dolmus will eventually run up to the top, but at the moment they only run half way up the hill, therefore it was easier to catch the taxi. We are going back next year, so will let you know if people are a little more welcoming next time.
Scoobyclaret, Hisaronu is nowhere near the "boom boom" of Marmaris, much quieter!.
I have to mention Christina and cetin who run the bar round the pool made it that much friendlier and had some really late chats with them and other friends that we met,all in all a nice place to be.
we have been to icmeler 4 times in a row and personaly i think ovacik and hisaronu beat icmeler by a long chalk,
we have booked to go back in may bank hols and poss august again, and yes the dragonara is the best also the shine for an indian is good too.
Chris.
hisaronu has so much to offer even if you are staying at olu or ovacik or kaya but you will have to go along way for the friendly welcome of the true villagers
I agree Christina and Chetin were great and very helpful. We have booked to go back next July, so despite slight reservations, it hasnt put us off going back - the apartments will definately be hard to beat! We made friends with owners of one of the two bed aparts, they are fab, they have a top apartment therefore the top floor bedroom has fantastic views from the balcony right across Hisaronu and also has an en-suite bathroom with Jaccuzzi bath!!.
I suppose it all depends on what you like. Personally I much prefer Olu to Hisaronu, we love the sea and also Hisaronu to us seems like loads of British type bars etc. However, like I said before everyone likes different places and we also love Icmeler. Others dont, horses for courses peeps
We have friends who live in ovacik who untill june this year ran an apartment in icmeler and they say icmeler is dead very very quiet and the hasssle is so much thast they think it is putting alot off going there,we were in icmeler august 2004-2006 and had noticed a decline in popularity, which is the only reason we came to hisaronu, glad we did.
