Hi I'm new to the site so Hello. I'm looking for advice but I'm not entirely sure what i can and can't say. I booked a holiday in June 2008 through portland holidays for May 2009. Firts family holiday and i booked Contessina Hotel in Tsilivi Zakynthos as it had been recommended to us by family and we are getting married there in 2011. When we arrived at Zakynthos airport we were told that our hotel had been overbooked and we were to be placed in another hotel in the same resort. There was no other option for us other then for us to go there so we arrived at the hotel it was a hotel for families with children with lots of kids clubs and activities to do, we have a child who at the time was 14 months old so this was no use for us and really we wanted a quiet hotel. We got in the room and it was basic, it wasn't very clean there was ants all over it and there was a dodgy smell as the rooms were near the sewers. Entertainment was going on til 1-2am the hotel were playing music of explicit nature and kids were running riot around the hotel. We did make a complaint whilst we were in resort, there were numerous other couples in the same situation except they didn;t have children. They had all been made aware of the hotel being overbooked before their departure to Zakynthos and had received compensation. We did tell the rep this and they gaveus a breakdown and the hotel we were put in cost more than the hotel we were supposed to be in due to all the kids club etc that we didnt need and didnt use. They refused to give us a refund as we had a 14month old child. They did however say they would give us 40 per person back on return in the uk. I have written numerous emails to first choice and received nothing back, i havn't received the 40 per person either. We did receive a letter on arrival back in the uk which was dated 21st May 2009 and we departed to Zakynthos on 29th May 2009, if we had known that we were being moved to another hotel i would of asked for a refund. I'm just asking for advice now on what to do im going to send a letter by recorded delivery to first choice and see if i get an outcome then. If that fails does anyone have any advice of what i should do?
Danielle
It shouldn't matter whether you had a child or not re compensation IMO.
Re the letter sent, did you keep the envelope for the date it was actually posted? As I've had post dated letters in the past and it's something that the T/O could do.
