Hi
Please forgive me for making my first post a cry for help but as a loving son I have a problem trying to help Mum and Dad. They are both in their eighties and they want a holiday but I can't find one due to Mums disability. She has very bad rheumatoid arthritis and last year due to a hospital stay of six months for a badly broken leg she is now totally reliant on a hoist and can only go from bed to a chair or wheelchair. She has no walking capability whatsoever. She has also got to use a catheter 24/7 and has been for nearly a year.
Sorry to go on
Mums life is now getting up and sitting in her chair or wheelchair until bedtime so she is now looking for a holiday in Hampshire or Dorset. Trouble is I can't find one for them that has a hoist/carers or room for mums own carers. We can get around the carer problem by paying private carers but its the hoist we are having problems with more than anything else. She is not a light lady so we have to have a real hoist and nothing too lightweight.
Can anyone in the same position as her recommend anywhere in Hampshire or Dorset as she also has problems traveling so going long distances is not an option. I would be very grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction to a hotel, guesthouse or self catering
Kind regards
Ken
just googled around a bit for you and spotted this hotel in corfe castle
http://www.mortonshouse.co.uk/access.asp
they have disabled rooms with Beds that can take a hoist . Is it possible you could hire one .
Thanks for the info, I will contact them and let you know how I get on. I am admin on a large forum of my own and I know how annoying it can be for a first time poster to post asking a question without as much a by or leave so once again thank you for helping me but especially thanks from Mum.
I wish someone had told me 50 years ago it would have come to this ........................I would have emigrated only joking
Regards
Ken
Hi Ken ... when you have some time for a browse, you may find some useful info and weblinks in our
I missed that one entirely
I will have a good look through tomorrow, it looks like I posted on the wrong forum apologies for that

glad to try and be of help . My elderly mum is also now confirned to a chair after spending a few weeks in hospital confined to a bed for no reason so I now where your coming from . My brother lives with her and is her full time carer and things unfortunately are hard going . The difference is my mum has no interest in taking a holiday so its nice to put my holiday frustrations to good use.
If you havnt already found them these websites might be of interest as well Ken . http://www.livability.org.uk/landing.asp?id=9

Not a problem Ken, feel free to post in both in order to attract maximum feedback, as some members may browse one forum but not the other.I will have a good look through tomorrow, it looks like I posted on the wrong forum apologies for that

http://www.ortonrigg.co.uk it`s a hotel at Canford Cliffs, Dorset. It used to be owned and run by Arthritis Care and is fully equipped for disabled visitors. They will help with equipment hire. Although the British Red cross have a few branches in Dorset and Hampshire, including one in Poole, and they will deliver mobility equipment to the hotel. There are some good reviews for it on http://www.accessatlast.co.uk
hi Ken, Have a look at
sor sorry, ken, that should be
Thanks everyone, I am not ignoring your help for which I am extremely grateful. I am just reading all the websites you have given me links to. I need to sort it out and to show to mum as a package.
Welcome to HT
A few years ago my MIL and FIL used a B&B in Weymouth called Oaklands. MIL didn't need a hoist at that time , just wheelchair and space to turn ! but found it very geared up to their needs - access, doors, wetroom etc
Good luck in your search and hoping you find somewhere for a good break

just to give you another option, dorsets.co.uk they are cottages in Dorset that have disable facilities
