I am going to the holiday village in September and am seriously considering cancelling. I don't care about all the silly things like paint work and how crap the food is, I think a holiday is what you make it, however I am worried about getting ill. I do not want to be ill on holiday, I do not cope well with sickness (plus I have a weak stomach so know it will happen to me!)
I am also taking my 12 month old and I don't want to see him get ill either. I just don't know what to do.
In regards to cancelling do you get all your money back? We have only payed off about £300 so far so not too much but I don't want to loose the money.
I am thinking of not bothering with egypt altogether to be honest. Just don't know what to do?
Anyone got anything to say to sway my decision!

Natalie,I was at the HV last November and it was brilliant but I can understand your concerns especially having a baby with you.
I personally would not go free during the hotter months and our winter was still a bit hot for me some days. However could you ask First choice to let you go to another Holiday village some where else in Europe?
If you are not bothered about going to a holiday village ask them to change your destination as you are very concerned.Best to decide now than wait until later when you may have no option to change.
The message from the manager is on this thread on page 55 I think.

Thanks for your replies. I rang first choice today and they said that they haven't received any complaints about food poisoning or people getting a 'bug'. The woman I spoke to just said that a lot of people get ill over there because of the climate change and different food etc. Which I suppose makes sense. She also said I could change my holiday for £40 but i'm not gunna bother.
Thinking about it, there are thousands of people that don't post reviews on these sorts of websites and I expect a whole load of them didn't get ill. If you look at all the reviews most of the ones where people are ill are quite recent, do you think it's because it is even hotter during june, july, august. The reviews from last year are actually quite good.
I think the weather does play a big part in it. I'm hoping it's not too hot at the end of september. Anyone know what the weathers likely to be then?
I'm still going to go because at the end of the day if first choice aren't receiving any complaints then it can't be that bad, surely?
Anyway does anyone know what the crech is like there? Also is the beach nice and swim up rooms?

First Choice told me that as well when I rang.. I don`t believe that they havn`t had any complaints though, not many hotels are that perfect - there is something that always upsets someone.

I do agree if everyone at the Hol Village had a problem then we would have heard about it on the news and the press!! as we would be talking over 1000 people.

We are going in August, we know what to expect, have been to Egypt many times and will keep our fingers crossed we are ok.

I'd take that one with an enormous pinch of salt if I were you!

I know nothing about the HV but I think you'll find it's highly unlikely FC would tell you if they'd received complaints.

I agree Pippy - these companies can be very, very selective in what information they actually give to us mere mortals.

Hi everyone. My hubby has been obsessive about reading the posts on this site practically since we booked our holiday in May 07! We have been to the HV in Turkey and that was utterly fantastic, so we thought we would try Egypt this time. We are going on 4 August - it seemed like a really good idea at the time! Not much thought given to the searing heat then...................

I am really looking forward to it but must say I am a bit concerned about the tummy bugs. I am OK with the bottom end but don't do vomiting, not for myself or anyone else. Am going with hubby and 2 kids aged 8 and 9. After reading the posts on here I have got a job lot of the acidophilus - fingers crossed (I just hope that's all I end up crossing!)

Anyone else going 4-18 August? :sun2

Just been and had my various jabs for the trip in just over three weeks time. The nurse at the surgery told me most of the issues they hear about, with upset stomachs, sickness etc (and not just Egypt) are down to the Sun, food that's been lying around too long and people just generally not being concious of hygene (washing hands etc).

The pictures on Tripadvisor look great, can't wait to get out there now! :tup

Will obviously update you all on our experience after we get back on the 5th August.

DONT go to the pharmacy just outside the gates of the hotel as you will be ripped off.

A friend of mine has just come back from the H.V with her family and they all came down with bad stomachs. This has put me of going as we are suppose to be going in October with our 3 children. My youngest is 3, and there is no way on earth i'm going to take her somewhere with a chance of her becoming very ill. I know that abit of stomach problem is bound to happen, but my friends family came down with the cramps on the 5th day and is still suffering back home. She had to go to doctors on friday and they wanted samples of them. Yes she has complained to first choice who have told her she is the only one that has complained which according to them leaves them to think that there is not a problem at the hotel and the problem is more to do with the change in weather. Her doctor told her this is rubbish! I believe there is another holiday village in costa del sol, so i'm phoning on monday to change and I wont be paying anymore.

I am not going to read any more reviews, as we were going to change our Holiday yesterday, but after reading the latest good reviews we decided to pay the balance and take a chance, now more bad reviews.

Whoever is going, have a really good Holiday and hopefully no tummy problems, heres to our September Holiday.

Hi, me and my family (partner and and 2 kids, girl aged 6 and boy aged 8 ) are off to the Holiday Village on 31st July for 2 weeks. We have read all of the reviews, good and bad and have constantly changed our minds about weather we should go, we have decided to stick with it. :) .

Is anyone else with kids this age going at the same time, this is the first holiday we have had in 4 years and are looking forward to the children making friends.

We also would like to know if its exclusively British as we were told this by First Choice.

To the above poster, we are booked for Sept too, we are having a panic after reading the reviews, I want to stick with it and wait too.
I am hoping the problem will be addressed in the next 10 weeks. :(

Hi JakeJez3

We also go the HV on 31st July and I have like yourselves almost change our minds after reading all the reviews and spent most of today looking at alternatives but think we are going to stick with. Fingers crossed. I know of a couple of families who have been from school who apart from a few minor issues had a good holiday asked if they would recommend it and they said yes. We also have a daughter who is 6 and a son who is 2. So see you there if I we don't have last minute cold feet!!!!
:cheers
