My first holiday abroad was in 1962 - went camping in Italy (Andorra/Diana Marina area). There were Mum, Dad, me and my sister in a Ford Anglia van. We drove through France, into Italy and can remember stopping at the top of the Dolomites, drawing our names in the snow (this was July) and locals selling peaches the size of melons on the roadside.

First holiday staying in a hotel and flying was back in 1969 - went to Catollica with Clarksons flying from Luton airport (night flight). We thought we were royalty. Happy days :)

Flying into Dalaman Airport in Goa with British Caladonian in the 80s the Captain who had'nt been there before drew our attention to the runway lights, the power cuts were so frequent, they had little oil lamps all along the runway that someone lit when the occasional plane was expected. It quite made his day as it was the first time he'd ever experienced anything like that!. It certainly prepared us for what was a VERY third world airport in those days Alan

First holiday, 1986 to Lloret, full board it was, and we thought we HAD to go back off the beach to eat lunch! Mind you, when I was asked if I'd enjoyed myself, I replied that I felt that I had had a real holiday.
Best laugh was going to Monsterrat, stopping at a parador, and my wife says to me, "Can you smell that? You know, like when you smell donkeys?" I replied, "I don't know, darling. I don't go around smelling donkeys!" She only went and hit me!
Running out of fags on the beach, and only having enough change to get a pack of Ducados! Just about blew my head off! What can you expect at less than 30p a pack?
Getting a taste for Spanish brandy, still drink it now!
Happy days!

Our first family holiday abroad was in 1970 and we travelled to Arenal, Majorca :yikes . I can still remember the hotel name: Antigona. We thought it was very posh; all marble floors, staircases, etc. and, a lovely pool area. Anyone know if it's still there? Still remember the food as well :tongue; some really strange concoctions!!!

Pargaluvva - I too stayed at the Antigona! I think in about 1972 with my sister and two friends. It was the first time I had been on holiday without parents and only the second one abroad. ( The first in Cala Millor the year previously.) I remember thinking we were very grown up, well my sister was (20) I was 17 I think? We met a group of lads from Bristol (?) and were highly disapointed when a load of girls that knew them turned up half way through the holiday! :D
