If it`s the hotels policy and he aint wearing long trews....he will be eating in the street, cos there is no way he`ll get into the dinning-room.
Yes, he`ll be fine with round necked tops....as long at they dont say FCUK YOU on them

do you do the packing if so then just stick the long trousers in the case - OH will thank you for it when you get there.
Hilda,

Thats what I did when we had discussions regarding footwear in the Caribbean.
"I'm absolutely not wearing sandals" he said before we went "I'll look like a right twit" he said The sandals went in my case and he would have felt a bigger twit if they hadn't as nearly all the guys his age were wearing them
and his feet would have hummed something rotten
Lynn
(he still won't wear them here though )
The trouble is..you can see how much stress this causes alot people. This is why i usually stick to 3* hotels...i feel more comfortable.I wouldn't want people looking down on us just cause hubby was in jeans or shorts..even tho he does look smart,i mean one persons smart is not another persons...if u see what i mean...nicole
Also..he does normally wear shoes at night but i told him that this year (we are going to turkey in august) he will be far to hot in shoes and must wear sandals and i've told the boys this as well.I know i couldn't wear socks and closed in shoes on hols...nicole
and ndshelton i know EXACTLY what you mean thats why we normally go SC so i can wear me nightie if i want to!!!!! (i hate all the doing your hair every night )
hes got clarks sandals so they will be ok.......as for me, well yesterday i took my glasses in as the coating is coming off them so i was looking to pay £180 for a new pair of lenses. but they have a 2 year guarantee so i get a whole set for FREEEEEEEE
off to the shops on monday!!!!
we have never been refused service in a dining room because of the way we dress but we wouldn't dream of going to dinner with shorts on. i wear vest tops (smart ones) and 3/4 trousers or smart trousers.
As long mens shorts are a reasonable length, who cares? OK, British blokes tend to have luminously white legs with too much hair, but Is it fair that a woman can go into a restaurant with a skirt skimming her rear end, but a man has to wear long trousers? It sounds to me like the Victorians are back- quick! cover up the table legs!
I thought this was meant to be a post modern society anyway?
All the fuss about dinner dress,2 pair long pants, eat your dinner up stairs change into the shorts job done,If its the hotel policy for long trousers at dinner.

Totally agree
Therefore, I will pack 1 or maybe 2 max, pair of light coloured chinos, that immediately after the meal, he will go back into the room to clean his teeth and get changed back into shorts .now what hardship is that.?

Why do people want to make their own rules, most hotels would require standards, the same thing happens with people complaining about Ryanair, East jet etc who announce their terms and conditions. as Sanji and Quataman say conform for dinner and then get back in your shorts. or go self catering and then you can do as you like.
Conforming isn't what a holiday is about though- it's getting away from the rules and regulations that people face at work
We have all gone to work but some of us would not like to offend our fellow guest's in what we hope will be quality hotels. Total relaxation can be had by self catering in a style tha fits your way of life.
I also don't think anyone's talking about making their own rules it's just people expressing their preference of what they see as acceptable
It seems to me if you stay in "quality" hotels people are going to judge you on what you're wearing, I'm sorry but there seems to be an element of snobbery about it. I'm a little more down to earth than that but I do have standards!

I agree, and I would always remind people that my money is as good as theirs and also, I might have paid more to stay in the same hotel as them.
I think we have deviated from the original question, it is not about how good your clothes are, whose name is embroidered on them, or how much they cost.
It is about a dress code that hotels put in practice for several reasons.
I honestly don't see the difference between a skirt and shorts. Who cares? I think those sorts of rules are pretty outdated and should incorporate current fashion and trends
IMO. The difference is "¦women wear a skirt everyday if they wish, and it is an accepted dress code.
There was a time when women wearing trousers was frowned upon...and I'm talking about in my lifetime.
Shorts are an essential clothing item to men, but they go to the gym, mow the lawn in them or wear them on the beach/around the resort......IMO.they should not go to dinner in them..
It's not about what fabric the trousers are made from....it is about having a bit of dress sense and decorum, Jeans have become an accepted article of clothing for men and women .I too wear my jeans with my black boots during the winter months when visiting Spain, because it is blinkin cold at night....and I couldn`t give a fig whose Tommy whatever name is on them, if they fit, are clean and comfy, then that is all that matters to me.
I thought this was meant to be a post modern society anyway
The term postmodern society can only be applied to certain countries, Spain for example lived under a dictatorship until the 1970`s and 40 years in history terms, is absolutely nothing.
General Franco only allowed the bikini to be worn in the street from around 1960`s, previously you would have been arrested leaving the beach uncovered.
Whilst I don't wish to appear as giving you a history lesson, I get hacked off, when people cannot abide by the rules and traditions of the countries that they visit, and want to impose their idea of dress sense on their host.
Some of these traditions are being eroded daily, by so-called modern thinking academics.
I mean, would you go to Afghanistan and expect to be able to wear a bikini.?
