thanks dave that has cheered me up no end  my hubby forked out a lot of money for a 4 *star room all iclusive for a week....we dont have a lot of money having raised 6 children between us (we are a joined family) and this is our first time that we have been able to afford going all inclusive as we only have one wage coming in with me being unable to work due to a medical condition....so now its friday evening and we are going on sunday morning and am as confused as ever.....does this mean my poor hubby has wasted his hard earned cash :?: let this be a warning NOTto ever read reviews after booking a holiday and before going

The reviews on Trip Advisor don't look too promising I'm afraid. I seems that the 'standard' rooms are very small. What type of room have you booked. There is a new bit to the Fortina but the rooms in that part are very expensive.

I realise that it is probably too late to do anything about it but had you thought about changing hotels? I don't know who you have booked with but if it is one of the Air Malta Companies (Mercury, Chevron etc.) they may be able to advise you.

A really nice hotel that has an all inclusive option is the Coastline in Salina Bay near Qawra - the view from the sea views rooms is lovely.

Whatever you decide - hope you have a great time anyway.

Hello Foxpot, I am sure you will have a great time over in Malta, the link I put up, you have to remember was about this hotel 13 years ago when it was just H/B and not A-I as it is now. There has I believe been a lot improvements to this hotel since I was there, so you may well just be alright I hope so.
From what I hear the food is a lot better than it used to be, and the view from the seaview rooms more than make up for there smallness.
Have a great time, sorry my link upset you.

Hi foxpot,

Dave's probably right about the Fortina in 1993. I have an old catalogue I kept from 1983 and yes the Fortina was half board then and certainly didn't look like the quality of hotel we went to in both 2000 and 2001! I would also agree that the foyer isn't too brill but do you really think seasoned Maltaphiles like us would be daft enough to visit the hotel twice and consider staying there again if it were really that bad? :no

Dave says there was only one pool when he visited - well there were seven last time we stayed there! :hmmm The gourmet food in a choice of three restaurants, was excellent. I understand that there are even more choices of different restaurant now.

If you're really worried about your room etc email the Hotel who I am sure will put your mind at rest! All I can say is that you ought to really look forward to your well earned holiday and let us all know how you get on! :sun

I got back on sunday from a wonderfull weeks holiday in the fontina hotel in sliema malta 8) I was really wary after reading some of the reviews on here  BUT I have to say that it was just gorgeous.Myself and my husband stayed in a standard seaview room which was just beautiful....I think the reason people say its small is that the bed was HUGE and I do mean HUGE...and it was REALLY comfy 8) we had a stunning view of valetta....the staff were just so nice and could not do enough for you 8) the food in the 7 restarounts were to die for 8) and I am so surprised that I did not put on any weight for the amount I ate  there was a VERY hunky barman called bruno in the island bar.....and the music in the cocktail bar was lovely. I had a half an hours hydro bath spa treatment on my knees every day and it did them the world of good as it has set me up for my major knee surgery in april.....my favorite eatery had to be the chinese where I had a DELICIOUS beef in red whiskey sauce .....all in all it was a wonderfull holiday......the only compliant i would have is the way the reps hassle you to have a look at the spa bedrooms....we had already paid for our holiday and really we just wanted to chill out....BUT once i explained politely this to them they did not hassle me again.......apart from that it was a wonderfull week and I will deffo be going back again with my hubby...
