Hello all, I would like to put my side of this link on the Fortina hotel, first I must say that it was a long time ago when I was there, so long ago that they had not even built the bit at the back never mind the tower on the side.
Let me take you back to 1993, me and Mrs Holidaymaker had just spent a great week on Gozo our first time in a four star hotel (Hotel Andar) with helicoptor tranfers and a taxi to our next four star hotel in Sliema.
Well we tuck in the sites as we were driven to our hotel, one of the best in Malta we were told.
On entry we looked at all the glass and marble of the foyer what looked like leather seats and two very stern looking Maltese at the desk who gave us the up and down sort of a look and told us we were on the second floor.
Well when we got in our room we just looked at each other and thought this is more like a geust house at Skeggy than a four star hotel, the carpet was dirty with fag burns on it the A/C made that much noise when it was on people in Valletta could hear it, and the bathroom was just a cupboard that would flood all the carpets in the main room.
The food in the restaurant was at best poor and the waiters were even poorer most of them just didnot give a monkeys, the one and only outdoor pool was nice but you had to pay for a sun bed and the night time entertainment was dire in a big way.
The only thing I could say about this hotel is if you are on the front it has one of the best views of Valletta you will ever see.
To round of last new year (2005) we had a look in the foyer as you do, and it was just the same as it was in 1993, dark and dank, so all I can say is I hope the two new bits are better than the old bit.

thanks dave that has cheered me up no end my hubby forked out a lot of money for a 4 *star room all iclusive for a week....we dont have a lot of money having raised 6 children between us (we are a joined family) and this is our first time that we have been able to afford going all inclusive as we only have one wage coming in with me being unable to work due to a medical condition....so now its friday evening and we are going on sunday morning and am as confused as ever.....does this mean my poor hubby has wasted his hard earned cash let this be a warning
I realise that it is probably too late to do anything about it but had you thought about changing hotels? I don't know who you have booked with but if it is one of the Air Malta Companies (Mercury, Chevron etc.) they may be able to advise you.
A really nice hotel that has an all inclusive option is the Coastline in Salina Bay near Qawra - the view from the sea views rooms is lovely.
Whatever you decide - hope you have a great time anyway.
Pippa
we have booked a 4* seaview room all inclusive.....I will just have to hope that it is ok as I cant afford to get any more stressed than I am lol
xx

From what I hear the food is a lot better than it used to be, and the view from the seaview rooms more than make up for there smallness.
Have a great time, sorry my link upset you.

Dave's probably right about the Fortina in 1993. I have an old catalogue I kept from 1983 and yes the Fortina was half board then and certainly didn't look like the quality of hotel we went to in both 2000 and 2001! I would also agree that the foyer isn't too brill but do you really think seasoned Maltaphiles like us would be daft enough to visit the hotel twice and consider staying there again if it were really that bad?
Dave says there was only one pool when he visited - well there were seven last time we stayed there! The gourmet food in a choice of three restaurants, was excellent. I understand that there are even more choices of different restaurant now.
If you're really worried about your room etc email the Hotel who I am sure will put your mind at rest! All I can say is that you ought to really look forward to your well earned holiday and let us all know how you get on!

I got back on sunday from a wonderfull weeks holiday in the fontina hotel in sliema malta I was really wary after reading some of the reviews on here BUT I have to say that it was just gorgeous.Myself and my husband stayed in a standard seaview room which was just beautiful....I think the reason people say its small is that the bed was HUGE and I do mean HUGE...and it was REALLY comfy we had a stunning view of valetta....the staff were just so nice and could not do enough for you the food in the 7 restarounts were to die for and I am so surprised that I did not put on any weight for the amount I ate there was a VERY hunky barman called bruno in the island bar.....and the music in the cocktail bar was lovely. I had a half an hours hydro bath spa treatment on my knees every day and it did them the world of good as it has set me up for my major knee surgery in april.....my favorite eatery had to be the chinese where I had a DELICIOUS beef in red whiskey sauce .....all in all it was a wonderfull holiday......the only compliant i would have is the way the reps hassle you to have a look at the spa bedrooms....we had already paid for our holiday and really we just wanted to chill out....BUT once i explained politely this to them they did not hassle me again.......apart from that it was a wonderfull week and I will deffo be going back again with my hubby...
Hi foxpot would you add a review
