thank you lesmac packing my hairdryer as we speak, it wont matter to us about the entertainment we will go out every night. Was there much entertainment round the pool during the day not for me I love sunbathing but hubby gets bored. What about the towel and sun bed situation did they need to be out early ? Thank you
Deb
there was very little entertainment some water vollyball one table tennis table. there was always spare beds but they were in the shade for some part of day. so we went to the beach every day 9 euros for 2 beds and a parasol
I have Just returned home from magaluf, Couldn't stay in My favourite Hotel, Sol Guadalupe because it is closed due to building works. Anyway had a walk passed just to be Nosey , It just looks like a building site, .They are having a new pool built and I think they're doing the Restaurant, If anyone passes this Hotel in the near future could they keep me posted on the Progress, as we have booked for end of May, According to the sol melia website it is due to re-open 1st May. (FINGERS AND TOES CROSSED)
Hello to Goodfella if you read this, nice to meet you at last.
Yes, it was nice to meet you, hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay.
I can't believe how quiet it is here at the moment, I've never known it be so quiet.
The problem is that with the Guadaloupe being closed, as well as the Jamaica, the Trinidad and Antillas are full of Spanish holidaymakers, and none of the Fiesta Hotels have opened yet!
Sahara opens on Monday, so should improve then.
As regards the Guadaloupe, I've heard that it's well behind schedule, partly because they dug too deep, and hit the Water Table, and this has put them back several weeks. I hope I'm wrong, for your sake, but I really can't see that Hotel being re-open in 5 weeks time!
I'll try and keep you up to speed with the gossip.
Cheers,
Adam
I would be grateful for any information on Guadalupe over the coming weeks. I hope business picks up for you , see you in May , for kareoke I hope.
Mags
Have been told that they have put more man power on to the hotel job to try and get it finished as they will get a rather large fine for not completing on time!!
so they may have it done yet (but then this is the land of mañana so may be not)
will be there later today so will have a nosy and maybe get a pic so you can see how it looks!!
Hi
was talking to friend yesterday owns Windsor bar oposite Guadalupe he said he was talking to the workers and they told him it would be open 1st may they are taking bookings for then
Adam, get a big stick and hurry them along.
and to those who asked there is a launderette on the first floor sort of above reception
with coin operated machines and tumble dryers
there is an ironing board or two but i think you have to hire/supply your own iron
Yes, I pass the Hotel every morning, and there does appear to have been a noticeable increase in activity over the past week or so (after easter) and whilst I don't know how things are progressing inside, the outside could conceivably be open by the end of the month.
The fact that they are accepting bookings for 1st May, doesn't necessarily guarantee they will be open by then, but it looks a bit more promising than it did a few weeks ago.
(Goes off - looking for big stick)
Cheers
Adam
went passed yesterday and they are putting windows in and the pool has been tiled oh and they have started on the new fence so it's looking better but as goodfellow says it's starting to look more promising
I have emailed sol melia and they informed me that they were head office but would forward my mail to the guadalupe for clarification on state of work/opening ect
So they want you to contact an empty Hotel?
Whilst they are getting on with it, it's still a building site, and I can't see anyone working there, and I'd be surprised if they had power and telephone connection.
I'll try and take a stroll up there this afternoon, and see what I can find out - Adam across the road at the British Chippy normally has an idea, and I'll report back.
It'll cost you a beer though!
Cheers
Adam
Just had a stroll up there - passed about 4 people and a dog.
They certainly seem to be making headway, although I imagine it's still touch and go for 1st May!
Adam at Chippy tells me that they've finished the rooms, and it's now the ground fllor they are working on, and the pool. It looks to me like they are making the main entrance at the front (as opposed to the side where it was before) but there are no windows / doors in the ground floor - just gaps in the brickwork, so it's a bit difficult to tell at the moment.
It's certainly having a negative effect on the bars up at that end - 8.30pm and didn't see anyone in Manos, maybe 4 in Windsor Bar, couple in Mucky Duck, Green Parrott still closed and no-one (that I could see) in Piano Bar.
Not much better on our strip, although we do have the Sahara and Trinidad open, still the quietest I've known at this time of year.
cheers adam ,you probably needed the exercise it's a bit of a hike from goodfellows to manos. i'd have got a cab
well goodfellow you must walk slower than me as I pass nearly everyday too but I only spotted 3 people and a dog
I spoke with Clem at the Windsor bar today he says he has friends working on the Guadaloupe and they have told him it will definitely be open on the 1st of May however that doesn't mean it will be finished just open and you are right it seems to be the opposite way around now but according to clem they would have a lot of problems with paper work to get an entrance where it looks as though it should be ??????
Could it being so quiet have something to do with the exchange rate being so poor. It's certainly going cost a bit more unless you're going all inclusive. If you're like me,going half board though hardly using that option because we like to eat and drink out,it's going to be more expensive.Won't stop me having a great time though
You may be right - the exchange rate certainly isn't helping, but surely most people book their holiday months ahead, and no-one could have predicted such a poor rate months ago.
I think the Easter Holiday being so early has had an effect, as well, but that should have gone by now, and it's still unbelievably quiet - not just in Magalluf, but Palma Nova and Santa Ponsa too.
To give you a clue, we took only one third this March, compared to last year, and that was including an influx of American Navy / Marines - many nights you were justing looking up and down completely empty streets.
Fortunately March represents only a small part of our turnover - May to October is our busy period, but it's a bit scary!
APT
At my age, everyone is faster than me!
Cheers
Adam
was out there in feb and was very quiet and not a lot open, has it changed much since then? coming back in 2 weeks, hows the weather? anyone
I was really wondering if the rate would affect people who could go with a few days notice on last minute deals.Would they go elsewhere for a better deal.
I must admit I never even looked at the exchange rate when I booked in early January.Last August got me over 1,400 euros for a £1000.Be lucky to 1,200 euros at the moment.Hopefully it might improve by August.Just have save a few more quid
tessam, weather should be getting better then.Goodfellow will let you know I'm sure
Have a great holiday
