i was wondering how much those 5 days in hospital cost ?

oz was in hospital room with a scottish chap that had been in marmaris 2 hrs before being taken into hospital, how awful and when we went back yesterday to get the fit to fly certificate that poor chap was still in there, he said they are letting him out sat in time for his flight home, so he will have spent the whole 2 weeks of his holiday in hospital, oz did say that he didnt think he would be strong enough to fly the day he comes out of hospital, and its his first trip to turkey, very sad :(

Is there no NHS hospital ? (well the equivalent of if you know what I mean )

Presumably this must be their BUPA style hospital where everybody gets an en suite and TV and that why they hike up the price. :(

he did have a tv in his room and a en suite shower room but he shared it with 1 other person

ahu hetman is classed as marmaris's private hospital and its full of holiday makers :yikes

gosh sounds like the insurance bill is going to be very high, 5 days in hospital, ct scan, loads of drips for the 5 days, 1 of which was in for the whole stay but changing the position of it in his arm, probably be charged for that too lol, blood and stool tests , various tablets too, wonder if they will tell me the cost

anyway lets hope tonights flight goes smoothly, as hes still got slight pain everytime he eats :que

Obviously it's busniess but makes you wonder if this hospital if there to give the best care to it's patients or exists for the purpose of making a mint out of insurance companies .

Suspicious . Me , Never :)
Hope all goes as smoothly as it can tonight Karen . It will be a relief to have you both back on English soil :kiss

The bill for my neice to have stitches was £296 - this included the doctor being called out to the hotel, driving us in his car to the hospital, having the local anaesthetic, stitches, and 2 follow up visits, one to have a waterproof spray applied and then to have stitches removed. I don't think it would have been any cheaper at a private hospital here.
Have to say that on arrival the matter was dealt with very quickly and for the 2 follow up visits, we left the hotel in a taxi and were back within 20 minutes having been treated immediately we arrrived. We settled the bill on the first visit so did not have any problems with Administration or Insurance companies so was pretty straightforward.
I guess though that being treated as an out-patient with a relatively simple injury and as an in-patient with an illness of a more serious nature is a very different scenario. The main thing is that Ellie-Megs husband is on the mend and they are now on the way home - hope you have a safe and uneventful flight.

Where would we be without insurance .

I remember a few year ago a young girl who was at the same hotel as us fell of one of the slides and broke her arm in two places .She was on the second day of a two week holiday with her mum dad and wee brother ,they had scrimped and saved for two years in order to have a family hojiday and the father stupidly took insurance out with some two bob company with most of the policy in small print .The result was that they would not pay because of some reason or other .The family were frantic as the bill at the hospital was nearly two thousand pounds and they had no plastic or any savings only what they had with them .A few of us in the hotel got wind of this and organised a whip round .One of us approached the hotel manager who said if we could raise half they would cover the rest ,which we done .Can't imagine what would have happened otherwise.
Always check the small print .

hi

we are back wahooo, got home at 4 am so totally knackered. but was pleased to find out we didnt have to queue to check in and were first on the plane, mind you i did have to wander around the airport to find the office which was at the back of the check ins and couldnt find my way in for ages lol :think , so that was great. got help with cases both ends and transfer was a big coach with a driver loading cases undernearth bus so didnt have the worry of that either and he even loaded them into car for me. never thought i would say im glad to be home though after nearly a mth :tup , oz seems a lot better although still has mild pain.

think im going to try and find out how much it cost them, i paid the dr 150 lira for coming to the apt to check him out for 5 mins and i paid a driver for drs transport on top of that price grrr that was another 30 lira, they really know how to charge for medical checks :yikes

we are returning to turkey in around 9 weeks a bit worried now incase this appendix flares up again grrr

i would again like to thank everyone thats contributed to this thread as it really is so worrying when something like this happens abroad

After slipping on wet marble stairs in apartments in Marmaris a few years ago, I ended up with two dislocated toes, a trip to the hospital in an ambulance, two injections and two x-rays later my toes were put back in place. The cost was met by insurance company once I was home but we had to pay the hospital just under £400 before they released my pass port.
Might I add this was all down to stupid people (and they were not children) throwing balloons full of water about the stairs of the apartments.
