Hi Ross,
I would guess that you have received lots of calls about Hurricane Wilma and how it effected people's holiday's in diffrerent ways.
My family of 4 (My husband, myself and 2 children age four & eight) travelled to cancun on 18/10/05 to celebrate my 40th Birthday.
As soon as we left the plane and was put onto the coach for transfer to the hotel we were advised that a hurricane was expected within the next few days, but the rep made a joke of it. Therefore we took no notice.
The next day we were told by Thomsons that a hurricane was heading our way. They showed little concern and went on to book excursions.
As the day progressed the hotel began making preparations for the hurricane (boarding windows etc).
The next morning everything had changed - the hotel was in FULL hurricane mode and the signs were worrying.
No Reps were NOT seen all day and we therefore got hurricane precaution instructions from the hotel.
Early that evening we returned to our room with 1 candle, 3 apples and a sandwich as our provisions.
Later that night the hurricane arrived. My 2 children were petrified.
A few hours later all electricity was cut off and we were now left with 1 candle as our only light. This soon burned out. We were left in pitch black.
My daughter was vomitting over the bed and at least 1-2 inches of water was all over the floor in our room.
We had to stay in the room from Thursday 20/10/05 evening until 10am Sunday 23/10/05.
Thomsons did not do a head count or any other checks to see that everybody was OK, so God knows how at that point the emergency helpline in England could have reported to my sisters that all their passengers were safe.
Throughout the whole hurricane and the days that followed the Thonson Reps were totally useless. They advised they could not get in touch with England or vice versa, however I had received 5 calls from my sisters in England.
Information they gave us was later found to be untrue and they showed no help, care or sympathy to any of us.
On return to England on 28/10/05 (almost a week early) I found out that the Hurrican had already been forecast as early as 17/10/05, the day BEFORE we travelled. WHY had I been allowed to travel. US Airways had stopped all flights to Cancun on 18/10/05.
I have looked on the internet and now have a number of sites warning about the impending hurricne as early as 17/10/05.
Thomsons have given us a cheque of 40% of our total holiday, they advised that this was a gesture of goodwill.
I am unhappy with this offer and have told them so. I am demanding a FULL refund.
Can I please have your advice on this matter.
Many thanks

Why should you be entitled to any form of refund? - you chose to travel during hurricane season - thompsons are not responsible for the weather...live with it - next time travel when the weather is predicted to be more stable....
Brochures do mentioned that the there is a Hurricane season in the Caribbean/Mexico and in my personal opinion the 40% refund from Thomson would be more than I expected as they could have easily not refunded a penny.
Just my personal opinion with my Moderators hat off.
Mark
If you were to travel out to the Caribbean for a fortnight's AI, and after one night had to return home because of a hurricane (or any other disaster) you have not eaten or drunk or otherwise used 13 nights that you paid for.
OK you had your flights, and I accept you cant get compensation for loss of enjoyment, but the TO sold you a package and didnt provide it. They have to accept that they refund some money if they are to sell a product knowing this is the hurricane season.

We have another thread regarding H Wilma with therefore lock this one to avoid duplication and confusion.
