This is not the same as the database used by NHS staff throughout the country to access your medical records - I have no problem with that at all - if I went on holiday to Devon from Yorkshire and I collapsed unconscious , if I had some form of identification on me, the doctors would be able to get instant information about my health by logging into the NHS database.
The leaflets about this new database are being posted amongst junk mail, if you have prescribed via the Post Office to not receive junk mail, then you won't even know about it, unless you read passed the Daily Mail.
We received the leaflet this morning, hidden inside the pages of junk mail for one of the local supermarkets. It was only because Dave dropped the junk mail and the leaflet fell out, that we saw it.
Of course it's being promoted as the best thing since sliced bread, promising you better NHS care if your medical records are shared with researchers.
It's sneaky, there has been no debate about this and it takes the pee out of the data protection act.
If you don't care what happens to your medical records, then fair enough, stop reading this post now.
If you do care and want to stop your personal and sensitive information being shared with others, - you have to inform your GP that you want to opt-out and he/she must not share your medical records with anyone.
