and if your wondering why I am sat writing this its because there is nothing else to do as the weather is lousy and has been since we got here on Tuesday. I havent seen a hint of the sun and I am sat in my coat cos I am freezing. We are staying at the laguna park 1 and that is not all its meant to be either. Sorry if I am putting anyone off but if you are coming over in the next few days you will definently need a coat and a few jumpers wouldnt go a miss. Needles to say this will be the last time I visit Tenerife as everytime I come the weather is like this.
Diane.
All I can console you with is the fact that it's really cold here in the UK at the moment and at least you're not at work!!
Just to cheer you up, I've been looking at the webcams around the island today and it's been sunny all day in Santa Cruz! Just checked again and it's 22c and still shining. It's cloudy in Los Cristianos but the temperature in the square still shows 20/21c, there's even been people on Las Vistas beach today so I haven't got a lot of sympathy cos it's cold enough to freeze the wotsit's off a brass monkey over here!
Yes,give me the warmer weather on Tenerife any day! To be honest,as long as it's warmer and drier than the U.K.,(which I know it will be) I will be happy. Great to get away from work and to just relax and enjoy.Won't be expecting really hot, sunny weather, but if the sun shines that'll be a bonus.
Yes but in all seriousness I think the weather in the canaries appears to be changing big time..yes obviously its still a lot warmer than the UK but the amount of cloud and rain in the south of the island of Tenerife during the UK winter months seems to be seriously on the increase..It really seems to be a lottery whether you get sun in these months for a weeks holiday..Didn't seem to be like this 10 years ago...
I agree Hotel stayer, the weather during the winter in the Canaries does seem to be changing. I can cope with bright partially sunny days even if it's not warm enough to sunbathe but I found the dark heavy cloud and rain that we had when we were there really depressing.
We got bad weather last year when we were there and it was off putting. However this year we decided to try again, we went on 25t January and got 4 good days and 3 bad days. We still enjoyed ourselves but it wasnt' as cold at night as the previous year - plus for night time I took light sweaters to wear with a jacket, and trousers or jeans, and I wore trainers a good few nights, so I was warm enough. Previous year I had sandals strappy tops and a wee cardi or jacket. I think you need 2 layers of sleeves when it's cloudy etc in winter, well you do if you intend to sit outside at night.
We were in Lanzarote this January, Fuertaventura last month and go to Tenerife next week.
The weather in Jan / Feb was not wall to wall sunshine but a mixture of warm sun, cloud, rain and cold in the evening and at night but the only consolation was that it was 100 times better than the UK !
What a contrast to last October in Lanzarote when we had to put the aircon on in our hotel room to cool us down !
We woke up to snow this morning !

We were in Tenerife for three weeks from 16.12.05 - 6.1.06 and the weather was pretty much the same then apart from the tropiclal storm we had a few days after we got there when it did not stop lashing down for 30 hours. We had probably one full week of sunshine out of the three, the rest of the time it would be cloudy for half the day. It was cooler in the evenings and as the previous post said you needed a jacket or cardi, but oh to go out in the UK at that time of year without boots, large coat, gloves, scalf etc. It was probably the worst weather we have had in Tenerife and we have been going for over twenty years on a regular basis at various times of year. It still beats the weather here anyday.

Yes,I too agree that the weather is undoubtedly changing. Even when we went in April these last three or four years,it had been very overcast a lot of the time, with some sun too, though. I've just learned not to expect brilliant weather, just better than at home. I must admit, I probably wouldn't be too happy either, if that was my only holiday of the year ,"to the sun". We are lucky enough to go abroad (mainly Tenerife) three or four times a year,so we get to experience the hot sun of the Summer months also.
it has been cloudy this week, but i dont think its been "Freezing", day time temperatures in PDLA have not fallen below 18 degrees, but on an evening a drop to 15 can feel a bit nippy.I am sat in my coat cos I am freezing
Friday (turn around day) is here and the sun is out shining brightly and its not even 10 am today.
Forecast for the weekend is clear. Forecast for the UK over the weekend is Snow and not much warmer in most parts than 2 or 3 degrees. Now that IS freezing!
I can remember an April where we had 2 full weeks of rain in the south. I can also remember Jan / Feb temps of 80 degrees, no one said its guaranteed.
If you want wall to wall sun go to Gambia. it's 2 hours further south than the Canaries and has a hotter climate.
I just can't wait to get back to Tenerife next week! It IS freezing at home just now. My nose is like a block of ice, right now! We've got horrible, sleety rain and a really freezing cold wind. I'm sure I'll cope if it's a bit cool or cloudy and I've already packed bikinis etc. Also a couple of light jackets for the evenings,as well.
If you want wall to wall sun go to Gambia. it's 2 hours further south than the Canaries and has a hotter climate.
HEAR HEAR!!!!
When are people going to realise it is not your rep's, receptionists, bar persons fault that the weather is not scorching hot constantly over here in Tenerife.
As said in the above quote, if you want to guarantee the weather....off you toddle long haul, thats what I do!!!!
People ask me why the weather is like this and I say that on a quick visit to the uk last July it was amazing beautiful hot weather, however the year previous to this at the same time was dismal, raining and very cold!!!!
The fact is that you could rely on sunny, warm weather in the Canaries during the winter months up until a few years ago. It seems that global warming has changed all that
I was in Tenerife for three days this year January 15th - 18th and had scorching weather for the whole time, I guess you can call me lucky. Apparantly it had rained a lot the week before but the temperatures never dropped below 16 degrees, still far far better than the freeezing temps we are still getting in the U K.
bad weather. Sure, I've had cloudy days and even a little rain at times but mostly it's been pleasantly warm to hot during the day, evenings during the winter months are always chilly, at least that's what my wife tells me. I've always found them to be fine if I wear a jumper. Despite the cloud of the past week the temperature has still been around the 20/21c mark the whole time. I fail to see how that makes it freezing!
Well I must be lucky too! I have been holidaying in the Canary Islands during the winter months for the last ten years and have never had
but not all of the days we have been away.
The evenings and nights have been cold, not freezing but cold and unusually cold / very cold for the areas we have been to. Cold enough to have to wear tshirts and socks in bed - now thats cold !!
Chris
We have been lucky to have done Lanza / Fuerta in the past couple of months and off to Tenerife next week. Warm enough to wear shorts / tshirts during most The evenings and nights have been cold, not freezing but cold and unusually cold / very cold for the areas we have been to. Cold enough to have to wear tshirts and socks in bed - now thats cold !!

Did you look at the webcams today? Las Vistas beach was really busy! Lovely looking weather. And!! 22 degrees in Los Cristianos square
