Just a suggestion:
whenever our visas come back, I always check that our passport numbers are correct, that our names are spelled correctly and that we have a 6 month mulitple entry visa.
Last year on Tripadvisor VFS had stuck someone's OH's visa in their passport and vice versa.
She had to get a letter from HCI and at immigration they were pulled to one side whilst a discussion whether to allow them in went on before they were allowed through.
I also remember from a few years ago that someone had a total stranger's visa stuck into their passport.
Very recently on TA, someone posted that although her OH's visa was attached to his passport, it hadn't been signed by a visa officer or stamped with the issuing IHC office seal which is normally found on the bottom right of the visa.
After emailing VFS, he was told that the passport had to be sent back to VFS at Hayes with a covering letter to be then sent on to the IHC for signing and stamping. They also had to supply 2 SDE's at their own expense.
So, just to be sure, check all details thoroughly as soon as you get your visa back.
We had to send a passport back to Heyes due to a spelling error on my brother inlaws visa it is now over 10 days since we returned it. Can someone let me have the relivent phone number I should ring to check on progress or is to early yet, due to volume of christmas mail. I know I will be told to stop worrying by some people, but it is now six weeks since we first applied.
Thanks

visa back SD today 16 days after posting to hayes. exactly the same as a friend who sent a separate application. 11 of those days showing 'no record found' when tracked. glad its all sorted but gutted for mike and others who are left in limbo. hope this is of help to others travelling for Christmas and new year and still sweating over visa issues.
just had ne pics taken in town (2"x2")...but the background is quite grey...will this be a problem as it states..white background ???
hi noggin, just checked the website and the vfs photo specifications say 'The background should be a plain light colored background' so light grey should be fine. it is in the quick links section on the right hand side of the visa homepage
I believe the photo info states 'white OR light background and the features must be distinguishable'
Hope that helps
I really must read other responses before I reply - you beat me to it musonick
Cheers Javelin and Musonick....
Where it says..."Visa issue place"....i have put Hayes Middlesex, this is where i sent for my visa last year...is this right or will it cause a problem ???
For visa issued place we just put London and that was obviously accepted as ok.
Thanks for getting back to me Javelin, but im still no wiser
Maybe 'Javelin' means for "Visa issued place" (where you applied for your last visa) you'd put: IVAC, Hayes, Middlesex. You also need THAT visa number and the date of issue.
Are you sure you don't mean where your passport was issued.
If so , I used to put Liverpool but this year actually read the passport and saw it was issued by GBR and doesn't mention liverpool (sure it used to )
So I just put GB and had no problems.
OR, is this something on the new forms that I haven't seen yet?
on the new visa forms it asks where your last visa was issued...visa number and date of issue.
Never easy is it
better photocopy this years then as passport goes for renewal before next visa due!
so, just to be sure, check all details thoroughly as soon as you get your visa back.
yes very sound advice PPC.. . could save a heap of distress at immigration!!
chilly
My photos had a light grey background and were accepted OK. I just put Birmingham for place of last visa issued and Liverpool for place of passport issued. Good luck everyone
the passport issue place should either be ukpa for the older passports or ips for the newer biometric passports
I live in Lincolnshire, can't they post the visa out to you? Or have you always got to go and collect it from miles away, in our case Birmingham i think?
Derwentrocker we sent and received ours by post. You have to send it to Hayes. Ours took nearly three weeks.
