It's not what I'd class as central but the area that it is in is up and coming, there are now plenty of bars in the vicinity to choose from and the beach is well within walking distance for a 9 year old. It took approx 15 mins to walk to the front. You pass the indoor market on the way and various shops too so if you were tempted to have a peak in then allow a bit longer.
I stayed there in March for 5 days and to be honest, we didn't venture out too much as there were plenty of things going on in the hotel and as much food and drink as you wanted so we didn't really feel the need although we didn't have any kids with us, it was just me and my friend.

If you did decide to stay there and wanted to venture a bit further, say in to the old town then the bus stop is right outside and it's 1 euro wherever you go in Beni, also taxis are cheap and plentiful too. It is a lovely hotel and I wouldn't let the location put you off. Previous to going I thought that it would be a bit far out but really, it's not. I wouldn't hesitate in staying there again.
