But in answer to your question, I've never had any problems with my annual worldwide policy from Aviva (ex-Norwich Union) providing me with cover for regular trips to Cuba. Despite needing cover for pre-existing conditions, their premiums have always been amongst the most competitive for me so I've tended to stick with them.

Thought I would have a check around but as my son has a medical condition that needs covering and my family all dive I needed to be careful with cheap end quotes . direct travel was recommended and their cover appeared good as was their quote but on the final page I realised it didnt cover Cuba . On checking I found this and looks like it's because Direct travel is an american company http://havanajournal.com/travel/entry/cuba-as-dangerous-as-darfur-direct-travel-insurance-services-thinks-so/
I did get quotes from others i.e marks and spencer and eventually stayed with insure and go as their cover is a fairly good all rounder and competitive with the option of an access waiver and very small additional charges for extra cover you need for sporting activities not covered on their list. M+S is also very good and I believe theirs now covers airline failure etc.
I usually insure with Sainsburys. Not the cheapest, we remove the excess, the cover is good. It covers for schedule airline failure and we add the independent traveller option on. No problems when it comes to claiming. We have claimed a few times, once for a hospital stay and they paid the bill direct to the hospital. We have also claimed for a cancelled holiday. We had a cheque in less than 2 weeks of sending the claim form. It works well for us and they cover my husbands pre-existing condition for £10 when lots of other companies quote £100's.
Myself and my wife are also going to Cuba this year and decided to shop around for insurance as Thomas Cook were looking for a little over £110. We found a company at http://www.flexicover.co.uk who can do it at half that price for the same level of cover and this includes cover for pre-existing medical conditions.
Please bear in mind (I know that it goes without saying) to check that you are getting the proper level of cover needed as cheapest isn't always best. The only reason I've added that is because someone else will!

We went to Cuba in November and I paid £84 from Lloydstsb for a family of 4, which included 2 kids with pre-existing medical conditions.
That was a good price. Was it a "special"? I just checked on the LTSB site and they are wanting £114 (inc. 5% online discount) for a couple! And that was without pre-existing medical conditions.I noticed that the cover is provided by AXA who also provide insurance for Thomas Cook.
Flexicover are doing "Silver" cover for £43 & "Gold" cover for £56. I think I would go for the gold as it has a higher level of cover which is comparable to the TC/AXA policy.

It is now owned by AIG (American insurance group) that is why they do not cover Cuba,I found the best policy for covering Cuba was Atlas Direct ,you can look it up on line.
Yes Direct Travel is undrewritten by Chartis (formerly AIG) which is an American company hence why the don't cover Cuba.
http://www.getmy.com cost £60.22 for annual multi trip with no excess.
Also covered existing contitions (High BP and Gout).
We did ours through Also covered existing contitions (High BP and Gout).
That's a really good price. Does it include schedule airline failure and independent traveller?
I've put in our details and the price is coming in at over £110 for an annual policy !
I've managed to get the Flexicover single trip prices down to £36.34 (Silver) & £47.65 (Gold) for a couple or £63.76 (Silver) & £66.31 (Gold) for annual multi trip. Both with a discount code I found elsewhere on this site!
Looks like I may be giving them a shout unless I can find something a little bit cheaper.

Just bear in mind how much age influences premiums - I put my wife and my details into getMY.com for annual WORLDWIDE multitrip cover and the quote was in excess of £150 BEFORE any pre-existing medical conditions were considered (and we are not ancient - both in our 50s!!)
That will be because you've added USA and Canada. I've just tried on getMY.com and if's quoted me £60.72 including excess waiver and we are same ages as you. That's excluding USA and Canada. With two existing conditions (high cholesterol and pulmonary embolus) it came to £79.52. The only thing I have noticed is it doesn't appear to cover schedule airline failure and independant traveller. Plus the cover isn't as good as my existing (but more expensive) policy so think I will probably stay with my usual insurers.
Cheers Dave for the Flexidirect info. I put in details for me n mrs and Gold cover came in at £71 for multi trip which is £20 LESS than any other quote. Cuba here we come
Glad to have helped but have you booked it yet? If you put in the discount code mn238 you should get it around £5.00 cheaper. That would pay for an extra drink on the 'plane!!

http://www.myvouchercodes.co.uk and got a 15pc discount. Steve
Yep its booked. I used a code on In this day and age it helps to keep an eye on the pennies. It's more to spend on enjoying yourself!
Have a good time and all the best.

Thanks everyone for all replies - now insured through flexicover with discount. CUBA here we come
Just got our insurance sorted today. Flexicover Direct worldwide (inc. USA etc etc) "Gold" single trip - £51.17 (inc. admin fee) for a couple & this included a pre-existing medical condition.Works out at £60 less than quoted by Thomas Cook for the same level of cover. As mentioned previously, the cover is underwritten by AXA (as is Thomas Cook's ) so we have no doubts about using this company.
