Hi!
My boyfriend and I are thinking of heading to a Greek island in the last 2 weeks of September, does anyone have any suggestions?
I am nearly 26 and he is nearly 32, we want somewhere that's got lots of restaurants and bars but isn't 18-30ish, but at the same time not too quiet or with too many screaming kids! I'd like somewhere pretty but where it's not going to be too expensive to eat and drink out, and my fella has requested a sandy beach and not too much of a transfer time from the airport. We are thinking of going bed and breakfast rather than SC or all inclusive.
Can anyone suggest an island and resort?
Also, there's Grapevines Apartments in Alykanas on Zante through Sunstart(a subsidiary of First Choice), though Alykanas is small it is quite lively and there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. The beach is a comfortable 15 minute walk but well worth it. Using local Tour Operator Dionisos/Tez, we went on an overnight stay to Athens which was excellent value for money but make sure you try and get Costas as your Guide, he is brilliant. You can also go over to Kefalonia, we went on an organised trip and felt we didn't get enough time, add to this, we didn't see the location for the film Captain Corellis Mandolin.
My other recommendation would be Ayia Napa in Cyprus, it has got superb beaches. For this, you would have to look at the Small and Friendly Brochures for your requirements. We are in our 50s and so tend to shy away from the bright lights so to speak, we don't do kids if we can help it, no disrespect intended to those with families, it is the fact that we've been there, done that and got the t-shirt to prove it !! Hope this gives you a good start, wishing you and yours all the best in your quest.

I'm 32 and g/f is 25 and we like good restuarants/no kids/good nightlife but not mayhem! Places we've been before that sound like what your after..
Rhodes - We stayed next door to the Orion in Faliraki 3 years ago at the Royal Rose also through Kosmar and had a great time. The mayor is trying really hard to ditch the 'clubreps' image, bar crawls are banned but the bars and restaurants are busy..
Crete - Stalis. good beach, great tavernas and good bar life.
Crete - Hersonnissos. Great nightlife, mainly scandinavian and dutch teens.
Zante - Laganas - was good but it's 5 years since we went and it did rain for most of our 2nd week (late Sept!)
I'd also mention Ayia Napa as it'll be much hotter in Cyprus in late Sept but it will cost more ??

If the weather is important the Ionian islands are best avoided at this time, even if the weather is good they may be too quiet. This applies to Skiathos also. I would suggest Pythagorian in Samos as a possibility. Regarding Hersonissos, you might be disappointed with the beach, have a look at Rethymnon if Crete appeals to you.
The main thing would be that it'd be around 25-30'C, not fussed about it being any warmer....I am reasonably fair and my fella is pale, so those kind of temperatures would be fine.
Would you say Rhodes (Lindos and Pefkos) would be too quiet in the last 2 weeks of September? Bit worried about ending up somewhere that's a ghost town!!!!
Lindos will certainly be busier than Pefkos
Have you looked at Kefalos, Kos? Quietish - no 18-30's (that I've seen), good bars and restaurants, plenty to see around the island or trips to Nissyros, Kalymnos, Pserimnos
