Hiya

We are off to Gran Canaria in Feb at half term, we go next week aswell lol!

We like puerto rico it is different in winter months to summer months like you say a bit quieter but i think PR never goes too quiet.
We are 30,32 and have 2 kids aswell and have been in feb before and it really was great for some winter sun.

Puerto Rico has a lot of choice you have the various commercial centres which house bars, shops and restaurants.
You will find every type of restaurant there and all bars such as lively music bars with shots quizzes (xtreeemz being my fave in the Europa centre at the top of PR), then you have places with live acts on, quieter bars to sit and chill and nightclubs.
You also have nice areas along both beaches for meals etc aswell.

Lanzarote and Fuerteventura can be a little more breezy than GC and Tenerife.
I also think im right in saying the south of GC tends to be a couple of degrees hotter aswell than the other islands.
Ive been to Los Cristanos in tenerife aswell, and Lanzarote but always prefer Puerto Rico but we have made some good friends there aswell and have some fave bars/restaurants.

I would also say you will find a cheaper deal most times of you book flight only/accom only and a taxi we always do this and save a bomb.
Not sure where you live but easyjet now do flight only to GC but only from gatwick and if you book early like now they are pretty cheap.............i just got a family of 4 flights for £350, just need to book my accom now!!!!

Sites like http://www.somewheretosta.com or http://www.alpharooms.com , http://www.travelrepublic.co.uk have cheap accomodation.

I also know a place for taxis.

Just ask for anymore info im happy to help.

I would say that if you chose GC, then you would need to be in the south of the island as it has the best weather in the whole of the canary islands.
Based on what you have put, i would also recommend Puerto Rico for you. It is livelier than the purpose built resort of Taurito or the cosmopolitan Mogan ( my favourite place in the whole of the canaries).

In Lanzarote, you may not always be guaranteed to get decent weather. I suppose I would say Costa Teguise for you, but you may prefer Puerto Del Carmen as it is bigger and livelier. I would recommend hiring a car and exploring the island as it is not that big and it is my favourite Island of the lot
(even though my favourite place is in GC!)

Tenerife will always be the liveliest place of the lot and none more so than Playa De Las Americas ond Los Cristianos. I have generally found that the cheapest flights can be found to Tenerife and there is always an abundance of accomodation available. I am not keen on either of these 2 resorts and stay elsewhere when in Tenerife. ( you must visit Teide). You will find the most things to do in Tenerife and it should not be too bad at that time of year. In the height of summer it can get over-run somewhat with the lager culture.

Hi helen_gemini, If you want the peaceful/relaxing resort then i would suggest maspalomas/melonares, and within easy reach of the hustle bustle of pdi if you want it, approx 3/4 € in a taxi. Those 2 resorts have fab cafe/bars/restuarants especially the bolovard on the maspalomas beach. What type of accomodation do you want? s/c h/b? can recommend 2 really nice complexes in the campo de golf area. Cordial Sandy Golf/Cordial Cordial Green Golf opposite the golf course and within a 5/8m min walk to the Faro 2 cc.

Hi everyone, thanks for the ideas so far.

I think we're giving serious thought to Gran Canaria, and like the look of Puerto Rico :cheers :sun2

We're off to Rhodes next month, so to be honest the budget for Gran Canaria in Feb would be about up to £300-350 tops (the cheaper the better though really), and we'd be ok with SC. Can anyone recommend any accommodation that's going to be cheap but still alright to stay in and in a good location that wouldn't mean being really far from the beach, bars, and restaurants? Also if possible some tour operators etc to look at? Thanks :)

Hi If your thinking about going to Puerto Rico in feb why not consider the Revoli playa it's just up from the beach on the 1st hill and it was cheap for us to go this september we paid £1150 for a family of four for 2 weeks, i'm not sure if they are open in feb but i'm pretty sure somebody would know, there is some reviews for it on here under hotel reviews ;)

Lots of self catering available in PR for you to choose from, probably easier to scan throught the main websites thomas cook, thomson etc and then check back on here for the ones you like. Dont know if you are booking now or in the near future but it may be worth waiting a while as it seems quite expensive at the moment. A lot of the hotels and apartments change from UK operators in the summer to Scandinavians in the Winter, such as the Revoli, Haiti colinamar, altamar. And while they may have some UK holiday makers in there they are often 90% Scandi. A quick list of decent S/C nearish to the beach....

Marina Suites, Vistamar (not Riu), El Greco, Rio Piedras

Bit further back,

Cala dor, Cala nova, Nevada,

Top O' the Hill

Eden, Babalu, Blue star

Some of these are quite basic, some are really nice. It may come down to how far the budget will stretch. It may even be worth trying for a late deal.

Would recommend El Greco apartments, over the road to the beach, and lovely and clean. Rio Piedras too, handy for the beach. Cala Dor have also stayed but a climb up quite a lot of steps or road
