We went to Ixia last summer (had a great time); Rhodes Town is a short taxi ride away, and well worth a visit or 3. We walked down to Trianda, & caught the noddy train, which goes out a fair bit up into the hills. Good fun.
We went to a few palces, some by taxi on our own, and some organised trips via the hotel/TO rep.
What sort of things do you like doing?

looking for a base to explore the island really however not hiring a car :? .

stopping in pine trees hotel - any idea how close this is to resort centre/beach etc as we have booked off spec and dont know much about the hotel itself.

will be going to rhodes town/lindos and probably to water park for a fun day out.

what else do you reccomend?

Try a day trip to Symi, its a really pretty little island and well worth a visit. I would try and find a trip that doesn't go to the monastery though (I think its called Panormitis), as this takes up half the trip and means that you are on the boat for what seems like hours. You can also go on a day trip to Marmaris as Turkey is only about ten miles across the sea and can be seem from Ixia. We have never done this as we have been to Turkey a bit but I hear its a good day out. Rhodes town is so near and cheap by cab that you will end up going more than once.

I can second the trips to Symi & to Marmaris, both are good days out. We didn't visit the water park at Faliraki, but we did go down to Lindos & Pefkos for the day (by taxi).
I seem to remember the Pine Trees as being about a mile from Ixia centre, up a few steps from the main road, so you can't see much, so I can't help you much, I'm afraid.

Hi champions, i do know Pine Trees.

It's up above the main resort but not far. Ixia centre runs along the main coast road, to get to Hotel Pine Trees you turn off the main road and walk inland for 5-10 mins. So it's 5-10 mins to the centre and i'd say around 15 mins to the nearest stretch of beach. It's a small, family run hotel and the rooms are basic but clean. The best thing about the hotel seems to be the owners, they are so friendly they have alot of return custom each year.

If you plan on visiting Rhodes Town, taxis are reasonable or if you walk down to the main road you can catch the bus (which is v frequent in Ixia). To get to Lindos or the waterpark you'll have to change in Rhodes Town where there is a free bus service to the waterpark.
