sounds like you made the most of the not too brilliant weather shirley . I know rain can be very depressing but if it's cloudy it does at least give you time to do other things you wouldnt normally do if you were lying about in the sun .

We ate out quite a bit ranging from snacks at beach front bars to evening meals at some nice restaurants and even home cooking at Brit bars.

We had a nice meal with attentive service at Casa Pascual close to the hotel Cabelo and school but we didn't think the price reflected the meal. We expected better for our money although it was quite nice. There are 2 Casa Pascuals, the second one being in the street behind the main promenade. We had good food here and there was a discount of 30% off the bill if we ordered before 8pm- Can't fault it. I think our favourite meal would have been the fish meal we had at a restaurant whose name I can't recall. We also came here 3 years ago and the food was just as good. I think it specialises in fish although they do also have other dishes. Its run by a couple whose son is a bullfighter and his photographs are all over the walls. It's also in the street behind the seafront.

We did eat a latish breakfast away from the hotel on a couple of occasions and I can recommend a place directly on the promenade. The sign outside said La Cigalo but I'm not sure if that was the name of the cafe/restaurant :que Hubby had the 'Tropical' breakfast which consisted of yoghurt, muesli, fresh bread & preserves a bowl of mixed fresh fruit, coffee and orange juice, all for 6euros 50. I had the light mediterranean which was fresh baguette & preserves, cheese, ham, tomato, tea and juice - 6 euros. Very tasty and in a lovely people watching spot :)

I can't say we had a bad meal anywhere tbh.

Hi Shirley
Glad there was nowhere "not good"...we found that last year really...i think out of 9 nights there was only one place we were not impressed with the food..cant remember the name of the place though.
We ate a few times at a place directly on sea front cant remember the name though (should have took note)..it was "italian" based food..i remember we were directly looking at the childrens play area on the beach (slide etc)...had good food there and i hope its still there and we can find it again.

Hi Shirley, shame about the weather, it seems when we have it nice here they have it bad in the Med.
We went to the Montemar area a couple of years ago in June and found it fairly quiet even at that time of year.
If you're anything like me you will be ready for the next one!! :tup .....Caz

Hi Shirley
Pity about the weather, but there's still plenty to do if the weather is not good, you could have gone to Malaga and dodged the rain or booked a trip down to Gibraltar for the day.

Sanji said > The Spanish restaurant called "Bodega Contreras" in Calle Bulto IMO was the best food, best prices and best portions"¦.whether you ate British or Spanish style dishes.

You went to Bodega Contreras in Calle Bulto and the photos are of Yogie's bullfighting days, Yogie is the son of Lola and her husband who run Bodega Contreras.

What was the hotel Cabello like.?

Sanji, thanks for supplying the name of the restaurant. They were very friendly people and Lola introduced us to her son (the bullfighter- matador?) as he happened to be there the same time as us. She is one very proud mother :)

With regards to making the most of the weather, I'm sure there would have been plenty for us to do but the week went so fast just with leisurely walks and pit stops in the locality. Had we been there for more than a week I'm sure we'd have ventured further. We had a vague plan about going to Mijas one day but never found the time to go :think

cabello was just what we anticipated and suited us to the ground. Glynis has supplied the link to my review.

I can't believe I'm having withdrawal symptoms for this place already. Even though the weather wasn't very good I'm seriously considering booking again for next Easter as opposed to lying in sun drenched Egypt :really

My sis and friend both had days of diarrhoea after returning from Egypt although they had a really good hotel and took all precautions- Pharoah's revenge seems to come with the territory. I've heard of lots of people who've been fine over there but have suffered on returning. I think this is just one reason why I may forego the guaranteed sunshine.

If we go to la Carihuela again it will be our third visit and there are still loads of bars and restaurants we still haven't tried and loads of places we haven't visited.

Plenty of time to decide as I will be booking Summer 2012 first :rofl

What a beautiful place La Carihuela is!

We've just booked to go again for the third time in June for four nights. Can't wait, really excited and counting the days! In the past we've done lots of walking, walked along the beach as far as we could towards Malaga, walked to Fuengirola and spent many hours strolling and chilling around Paloma Park. I love walking up to Arroya De La Miel and stopping for a drink at one of the lovely bars there....not plucked up the courage to go on the Cable Cars yet, although every year I say I will attempt it!! Maybe this year! I am told it is well worth it as the views are spectacular. Fancy giving Mijas a visit too this time....

Looking forward to sitting outside The Dark Side of the Moon, with a small beer and watching the world go by....!

I love the fact that after leaving the airport, you can jump on a train and be there within half an hour.

We've stayed at La Luna Blanca and Plazamar Apartments in the past, and are staying at the Sol Aloha Puerto this year as managed to get it at a good price.

I've had such helpful advice from people in this forum each time we've been, in particular Sanji - thank you so much for introducing us to this little gem of a resort. ;)

Best Regards

Elaine

Well, maybe I wouldn't have if I learn to keep my big gob shut outside...long story.... someone earwigging my conversation in the bar and booked the apartment a few hours before me for June 2011.
Have a great time.....well I know you WILL.!
