Have never been to any of the Canarys before but I'm very familiar with most of Spain and the Balearics.
Would you say Lanzarote has a similar feel to the above?
Also what's the wildlife like? Are there any lizzards or turtles about?
Is there a dolphin show?
What price are we talking for a beer (large) in a regular bar? 3 euros?
Are spirits cheap to bring back being as we are only allowed 1 litre each?
Ta
There was no dolphin show when I last visited in 2003.
I've been to Menorca, Lanzarote is far more barren but stunning nonetheless.

Cheers
There isn't a dolphin show, but Rancho Texas has a nice park with various parrot shows etc., and Costa Teguise has the water park.
I can't help with the price of beer in bars, but I know many put on happy hours. Spirits I can help with Yep, they are very cheap, especially if you buy the local brands.
I would say if you want to get a feel for the island then you could hire a car for a few days and drive around the many inland villages. The island is very small, so you won't be driving long before you stop at something interesting. To me, CT is very impersonal and could be any resort in any warm country!!! Just my opinion though
Thanks Madsue
Further still North is Orzola where you can catch the ferry across to la Graciosa..a small island that is like stepping back in time. There are no roads to speak off but the harbour is lovely and there are a couple of restaurants where you can idle the time away after having a little explore. Perfect peace if you want to get away from it all for a day. Plenty of Lizards!
Going back through the mountains, you then have Mirador Del Rio, again tastefully done thanks to Ceasar manrique, it is a museum type place with a high powered telescope where you can look down on La Graciosa across the sea. Also on that side of the island is El Famara, and La santa..great if you are into water sports as the waves there are usually good for windsurfing.
Continuing down into the island, there is the Timanfaya national park with the fire mountains and plenty of camels. Well worth a visit and it is great when they pour a little water into an active volcano and seconds later it erupts into the air like a little geyser. There is a bus trip that actually takes you around the park and it is like being on the moon.
I must also mention El Golfo which was used to film i think it was that 10,000years BC with Bo Derek in..it is a green lake that was trapped there by the volcano's. Lovely to visit. Also, there is place called Los Herbidos which i think translates to "The melting Pots" which is where the waves crash quite ferociously through loads of little blow holes in the rocks. It is near the salt pans and is on the way to PDC and Playa Blanca. It has been adapted and has had little steps put in so you can actually get int he rocks..all safe of course..it is a tourist attraction.
I must also mention Jardin de Cactus, Teguise Market and Papagayo beach..all excellent places to vist.
CT is quieter than PDC but that suites me fine. Prices are about average. There are plenty of paces to eat and drink in CT..but often we like to explore..we hired a car on each of the times we have been and found tiny little villages that weren't even on the map..excellent. The water park has never been open when we have been to visit but it didn't bother us that much.
Hope this is ok for you Chivas..if you need to know owt else..just ask.

Costa Teguise is lovely, you have the main Cucharas beach where you can watch people learning to windsurf; and then to the north of the resort (near the posh Melia Salinas hotel) you have the Los Charcos beach where you'll be able to watch the kite-surfers. To the south of the resort (going past the Occidental Teguise hotel) you have the little Jablillo beach which is great for a bit of snorkelling, and then further down towards the Occidental Allegro hotel you have the Playa Bastian beach.
Not sure about bar prices, but for your duty-frees I would say shop around. If you don't mind buying the cheap local brands you can get them in plastic bottles so they don't weigh as much in your suitcase. Mrs Chivas will be pleased to know there are plenty of perfume bargains around We always come home with new "smellies" from all our Canary Island holidays.
Just to echo everything Val has said - Lanzarote is one of my favourite places. If you don't fancy hiring a car you can get good value excursions. thanks for the replies!
I am thinking of booking Los Zocos Club for next August (just back from Egypt....and this rain is really depressing!)
has anyone been to this complex?
I note people are saying its very windy...any worse than Matagorda? have been there twice and we loved it!
Would anyone recommend on all inclusive or is self catering just as economic?..with the euro as it is!
Thanks
Joanne
