Hi Duffaire

Glad you enjoyed your holiday except the aiport side of it.

I have just come back from Zante and the airport prices there were also really expensive as well, it was 25 euro (£20) for 2 teas and 2 coffees :yikes
at Edinburgh it was £11.50 for 2 bacon rolls and 2 bottles of 7up. So I think all airports are the same.

im one of those misers that take my own food and drink to the airport, i refuse to pay their prices! ;)

i'm sure if you look around in resort you can still get some good bargains when it comes to dining.

I think the prices are little more expensive than last year mainly due to the crap exchange rate as the pound not as strong as it has been the last few years.

However we still managed to get some great prices for meals etc.

I think the prices are little more expensive than last year mainly due to the "swear" exchange rate as the pound not as strong as it has been the last few years.

A couple of friends have just come back from Spain and they reported the same problem also myself in Belgium
Don't think that its particularly any specific country being greedy, just the exchange rate.

maybe we should all be looking for a holiday destination with a really bad economy so we can get a decent rate.

Any suggestions................. Nigeria?

I agree with eating out prices in Icmeler.... I refuse to go there, they are taking the mickey! Marmaris offers better deals and are not so in you face. I think that Icmeler will lose a lot of good tourists this year because they are greedy.
As for Dalaman.. prices are based on the euro which has strengthened. But you are allowed to take food and drink into the airport to eat whilst you wait for your plane.... everyone should take water and snacks and not pay the stupid prices!

I agree with Chelsea Boy about eating out in Icmeler, however what really upsets me is they put things on the bill you haven't had, this is really taking the micky, as for Dalaman, yes we took water and snacks, but with a 4 hour delay how can you budget for that, and after having to pay high prices for excess luggage I was fuming so needed the extra water to cool down :( We did get a free meal eventually, KFC chicken roll, chips and a coke, and at thier prices this was an expensive meal but not a lot of it lol

last year we went to eat in marmaris, and there was a tip added to the bill, cant remeber what they called it..

but we never had that added in icmeler....

it just seemed wrong, that they added it to the bill, and didnt give us a choice what to leave

I sympathise with you all for having to pay more this year ,but it happens every year, i wish it was still as cheap as 7-8 yrs ago but its not and with the euro pending in Turkey it can only get worse. But the main reason i got to Turkey and Icmeler in particular is the people ,their attitude towards us and the friendly welcome we always get when we arrive,it truly is home from home and i wish U.K was more like it.I personally dont mind so much the price increases (although cheap is nice ;) ) but i will always go to Turkey ,lets face it, most of my real friends are there. So heres to all of us ardent Turkey lovers and see you all june 20 onwards :sun2

I don't think that is the issue andreasmick..... a steak dinner in Marmaris casts 18-20 ytl...same dinner Icmeler is 20-25 ytl. Same dinner in my village 10 to 15 ytl... I know the people working and they know they can get the money.
Adding drinks to a bill is commonplace. Insist on the bill being placed on the table in front of you. IT IS THE LAW!!!! then when something gets added you will see it. If they refuse mention the zabita!. If they have nothing to hide then they won't mind.
Tourism will die here if the likes of duffaire start to get ripped off. The only way to save it long term is to fight the crooked practises now!

we wondered what the billd were on the table for, but when we looked, they were not for what we had ordered....... :yikes

say we were having food or cocktails etc......the bill would just say 2 beers and a coke.........

that bill is just for "the taxman" as they say but if you do get ripped off dont go there again .Not everywhere is a rip off place and you can find some nice inexpensive restaurants anywhere. As for marmaris and Icmeler price differences its always been like that as Icmeler is considered to be more upmarket by some, as it happens I was in Olu Deniz in august last year and that was far more expensive than Icmeler, but we found other restaurants that were more affordable

ive seen them put bills on your table which aint yours. it for tax purposes i believe, as a rule i always have my bill close by and always check on menu before ordering the prices because i have known them to put higher price. ie large efes on menu 3 lira on bill 3.5 lira, would only ever do that once to me then i would never visit same place again,
just have to be careful like anywhere you go :D

Hi all

Just my contribution , we only discovered turkey in 2006 , but have now booked to go back third time in a row , its weird when your young you concentrate on the greek islands and even cyprus but as we get older we though sod it and tried turkey and egypt , loved both , but egypt can be a bit not boring but not much to do as its Taba where we went so middle of nowehere , anyway , as for prices i love the fact it isnt euros but sadly that will be changing soon no doubt and thats a shame because without exception the countries using euros are ripping tourists off
the only concesssion we have made to the prices is to go HB instead so at least then its just drinks and snacks rather than whole meals , which is a shame because my OH loves to eat out on holiday and its a pity that prices dont allow us
